Unhappy Removing door speakers from enclosure?

Hi all,

I am in the middle of upgrading the door speakers in my 1999 C2 Cabriolet. I disassembled the door only to find these annoying speaker enclosures.

I am trying to figure out how to open these things up and how to take the speakers out, but everything seems glued/sealed. I'm stumped.

I'm sure there's an easy way to remove these paper cones and replacing them with my new Focal 13KS.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Carl

Are you talking about the Bose speaker assemblies in the doors? If so, I had mine completely removed and had custom enclosures built to house my new Focal speakers. I'm not sure you could (or would want to) just slap a new Focal speaker into the Bose enclosure.

I did remove the screws and they did not come out. I was under the impression that the screws were only for the grill. Maybe they're just stuck there. If it's the case, I'm very embarrassed lol!

I was expecting some kind of black magic required type of thing...

I don't have the Bose. Just have the standard crappy hi-fi system. CDR-220 + amp + CD changer.

They are eated i guess.Use flat screwdriver and help them out.Dont worry you dont need them right? They are garbage. In your case the 13ks require sealed enclosure so keep the enclosures and the focals are straight swap.

I put the Focal 5WS (which was the predecessor to the 13KS) in the enclosures in my doors. I think you do need to seal the opening in the enclosure for the best performance, and silicone the speakers into the opening, along with using the screws for the best performance.

When I removed the door panel, the speaker was actually detached from the enclosure. I had not put the screws back in. So you were right, and I feel totally embarassed now!

Thanks a lot!

Somehow, my 13ks are not exactly a straight swap. I'll need to dremel a little bit around the edges of the enclosure it seems.

That's exactly what I had planned to do, but thanks for the reminder. An air-tight fit is one of the most important things for decent bass response.
