Another key fob thread

Yeah, using the key to lock and unlock kinda sucks... So here's the question. Do you just buy one of these:

http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...y_Code=996keys

Then go right to the dealer and they re-program it? Simple as that?

Yes
If you shop around you might get it for less on EBay. If so it must have the bar code tag with or it cannot be programmed.
Also bring any working transmitters (keys) if you have others so that when they delete existing codes they won't delete one that still works.

This one has 3 buttons, but my key only has 2. Will this work? Can they program the 3 buttons instead of just the 2?:

Both Porsches I bought had at least one key fob that didn't work.... I tried to source them everywhere but in the end just bought the new fob from the Dealer. If you are a Porsche Club member you will likely get a 10% discount.

Expensive .... Yes.... But it will work, guaranteed... And there will be no guesswork as to if you have chosen the right part or not.... In the long run I bet there is not much difference in the dollars spent.

FYI- Some good news! I e-mailed Sunset Porsche and mentioned that postings on Rennlist said this remote was $99. This was their reply:

Thank you for your inquiry with Sunset Porsche Parts. With the Rennlist discount pricing, the key remote is currently $102.49 (plus shipping to get to you). It will need to be programmed by a Porsche dealership.

We have it in stock so it could be shipped when you are ready to make the order.

Since we are a Porsche dealership, this is a genuine factory Porsche part.

I have saved a quote for you in our system.

That sounds like a good deal... I got totally ****wed by OriginalKeyless... I ordered a remote, they sent me one with just one button. I sent that one back and they sent me one with two buttons. It looked like it was 50 years old, but I didn't care because I just needed the remote unlock anyway. The trouble is, they didn't send me the code. When I emailed that and said I needed the code, they told me not to believe that dealer crap - the dealer doesn't have to program it! I replied and told them - yes they do and they never responded (3 days now). I had to buy one from the dealer for $176 (reduced price) after spending about $160 at OriginalKeyless for the first shipment and the return of the second. Now I have a small paperweight with a nice blinking light.

More good news! I just talked to my local Porsche stealer and told them I needed to get a key re-programmed. Their charge is $75. The rep asked me if I had the key already and I told them I was getting it from another Porsche stealer, read them the e-mail, and asked if they would match that price. They actually said YES.

UPDATE: Got the new key. Total cost $192, plus a free wash and vacuum of course.

So my best bet would be to email them too and mention Rennlist?

your best bet is to go to a porsche dealer to see if they can reprogram your existing key.

If you are set on getting a new key, get it from Sunset or ask your dealer if they can match price.

Call your local dealer and go ahead and use the e-mail I got to see if they'll match the price:
