Swapped out a number of bulbs for LED's and got a check engine light this am. I'll go through and check each set but.... Does anyone know if it is economical and available to find a code reader for a '01 996 carrera or give in and have a tech check it out. I'm used to pulling my own codes on my other car so this is new for me with the Porsche.

 

ANY code reader will work just fine for your car....certainly much cheaper than paying a tech. Not 100% sure but I thought the CEL is emissions related so the bulbs should have nothing to do with it. Best of luck.

 

Might just need a relay, bunch of info on here regarding that problem.

 

Thanks, I figure if I can "read" the code it makes tracking down the problem a lot easier. at under $300 for the Durametrics that's less than the cost of one visit to the dealer to have them do the same thing, let alone the hourly rate to fix it!!!!

 

Most auto parts stores will read codes for free, autozone, pepboys, oreilley, etc.
