In addition to using the hockey pucks I've also used strips of rubber cut from a Semi-Truck mud flap. The pucks w/ time will start to crack but the mud flaps are layers of rubber & nylon fabric & they last longer.

is there supposed to be a plastic pad on the underbody of the car at the jacking points, or are they supposed to be steel squares with a hole in the middle?

I see the what but .. why? What is the need for a jack pad? Does the jack not fit properly? Are folks jacking their cars so much that more convenience needed? Merely wondering as I have never jacked one of my (at different times) Porsches for any reason let alone often enough that I needed an accessory to do so. Maybe I'm missing something.

For those of us who change our own oil, pads, tires, etc a jack pad is simply a suggestion to help not destroy the factory jack point.

^ Exactly. I change from street wheels to track set up regularly.

My hockey puck gives me a rubber cushion and eliminates metal to metal contact and the risk of the jack sliding.

The fancy one shown in the pic above fits into the frame rail and accomplishes the same thing.

Instead of jack pads, I purchased a set of these:

I bring them to my indy or dealership and ask them to use them to prevent damage to the plastic side sill when they use a lift.

Thanks for the info.

I think I might pick up a couple hockey pucks the next time I'm at Dick's!
