Has anyone done a 3.4 to 3.6 996.2 or 997.1 complete engine swap?

Has anyone done a 3.4 to 3.6 996.2 or 997.1 complete engine swap?

How much will the swap cost roughly?

Is it worth it for the power?

New Porsche guy sorry.

Whether I should bore my 3.4 to a 3.6 and go with (aftermarket parts), or just stick with OEM. I called a ton of shops and all of them had mixed opinions. A lot of them liked using aftermarket parts because its cheaper, but there were actually more shops that recommended sticking with OEM because they all said its (Porsche) they're not exactly using cheap materials to build there 14k+ engines. 1 shop in particular definitely didn't like using aftermarket pistons, heads and so on... because he owns a big reputable race shop here in CA and hes had various complains of owners blowing there engines on the track and just sticks with OEM. Anyways, I finally made my decision and just stuck with OEM. I purchased a used low (mileage 32,000) 3.6 C2 996.2 engine for $6,500 + $1,800 labor and have no regrets. And from what I hear upgrading from a 996.2 3.6 to a 997.1 3.6 is about the same thing (labor wise). Just my 2 cents. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the input definitely gave me an idea.

Only a 25HP differnce between and 3.4 and 3.6. The 3.6 achieves it with the Vario-Cam. Both engines had the same rate of failure on IMS. Some people think the 3.6 had less but that is not true at all. Both engines suffered about a 10% failure rate however IMS failure happens around 20,000-40,000 miles. My pre-modded engine had 106,000 with the orginal IMS with no problems. The 3.4 has a bad wrap but is a very strong engine! Its down fall is poor cooling, once upgraded with a 3rd Raditor and lower temp thermostat it has no issues.

Where did you get the 10% failure rate number?

Just curious...because it seems really high!

The 3.6 makes 15 ft./lbs more torque too & that is something you can feel & use. The weak point of the MKI 3.4 is the thinnest cylinder walls of any M96 engine & the main reason Porsche redesigned the case for the 3.6. The thin cylinder walls is why LNengineering.com sleeves are needed for a complete rebuild.
