Help car shut off while driving?

My 99 996 shut off pulling into my development. I have a little bit less then 1/4 tank off gas. I tried to start it and runs for second & shuts down. Not sure if the low gas has something to do with it. Vapor lock maybe?

Never had any warning. Just shut off down shifting from 4 to 3rd. It's been running great. Never any problems.

Fuel pump or filter. You may be hearing your radiator fans. Either way it's not vapor lock.

Some guy I was talking with said it might be my mass air flow sensor since I just installed a after market cold air intake a month ago.

I doubt it's the MAF, wrong symptoms. Did you get a CEL? MAF problems usually begin with a CEL.

Bad gas? BP just had a recall. Odd for it to shut off without a code, then be able to start a nd run temporarily. Does sound like fuel pump...

Worth pulling the maf, spraying with cleaner ($6) to rule it out. Also check everything you touched while doing cai. Easy to leave something loose... Vacuum line etc. Is it running rough then dying, dying when you press the pedal?

As long as we are guessing, a failing cam/crank postion sensor could be the culprit. They tend to operate fine when cold. Then fail once they get to operating tempertures causing the engine to shut down. Aside from that thought, I would clean your MAF, and re-check the application of your new aftermarket CAI. Namely, airflow: vacuum hose, tubes, screen or lack of screen. Good luck.

What about taking the filler cap off and trying a start?
