thinking of getting a 99 questions!!!!

I have the opportunity of getting out of my 2000 M Roadster s/c and getting into a 1999 996 coupe. It has 92k on the clock...professional repaint....and wastold the clutch and rms were done(waiting for verification.) I read briefly about ims but how would i know if it was done. Car has 18" turbo wheels i think. It has a custon stereo and has the optiobal sport

It has optional sport seats with carbon shells. Is there anything else i need to look for? Is 92k high miles? Thanks

Ok, all good questions. 92 on the clock for a 1999 is low mileage, about 7200 per year, good start! It would make sense that if the clutch was done the RMS was also so I suspect it's correct. About the IMS bearing they would have to look at the outside to see if it's marked LNE, with that mileage it's good because most failures occur early on, if it's the original have the oil changed and cut the filter open to see if there is any metal in it, if not you're gold. Just remember change the oil every 5k or six months, you might want to invest in the LN Engineering screw on filter adapter ($150) so you can use screw on filters (NAPA) and you'll get better filtration, also if you're worried about the IMS install the IMS Guardian.
Sounds like you got a nice one though, just remember if it's been sitting change all fluids because cars thet sit accumulate water in the oil and brake fluid, I'm a big proponent of oil changes.

Thanks for the quick responses. I am fine w a repaint as long as it was done right. The dealer said he changed the fluids. Not sure how far beyond oil. He said car drives fantastic. I mean it looks great from pictures. I have to get more details today about amount of owners and such.

Just run a CarFax and google the VIN. Look, bottom line, if you're happy it's all good! After you get it you'll do mods and all to make her yours anyway. If the paint was done by a good shop I would say no worries.

Can you post some pics or a link where we could see it?

OK, looks nice! I would get the carfax though to get the records, but all-in-all it looks like a nice dael, clean inside, paint job looks decent. I would spend the $39.95 on the car fax and take it to a local dealer or indy porsche shop and have a complete PPI done.

Well that's the steering wheel of the time, as far as the seats go, I'm not sure they were an option but they are like the GT2/3 type seats and the front leather is Porsche, so they could have been changed out but they look OEM. Your best friend right now is the PPI and carfax, as for the price, I'd say it's reasonable especially if it has a new clutch and RMS.
