HID Kit and Ballasts inside the headlight

Has anyone here installed the HID kits in their cars and left the ballasts inside? Any problems with heating up and melting the wires.

TIA

That would keep heat in and shorten the lifespan of the ballast as well as introduce possible condensation in some situations I would think. Have you touched a ballast that's been on for awhile? If this was ok, Porsche(and other manufacturers ) would've also put it on the inside. I just think its a bad idea. My$.02

I have mine outside the headlight housing, just drill a small hole on back to run the wires. Then I double sided tape it to the fender.

I've had a vvme slim balast kit inside mine for 2 months now with no problems. I'm not interested in drilling any holes.
EDIT: I should add that I drive 12 hours - 6 hrs non-stop each way every weekend and no issues with heat or the like.

2 months is not really a long term sample imo. Heat and enclosed space(for the most part) never mix. It just seems like general electrical common sense. Ask any EE or electronic tech and they'll say the same thing.

Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should...

Great point alpine, you're right about that. But you never know until you try!
I've had hid kits on every vehicle I've owned for the past 5 or 6 years and have never noticed any of my ballasts getting hot enough to do damage. I feel confident that it's fine. I'll keep you guys updated if I ever have issues.

I installed the ballasts inside the headlight assembly and they both over heated and burnt out. Don't do it, install them on the outside of the rear covers.

Ballasts in original casing

Hi I'm a newbie going to covert my 997 to hid this weekend after looking into it gonna put ballasts into original casing researched it and factory spec are also in the original case hence that's why there is so much space in it if you order a car with Xeon that's where they are same design as non factory spec Xeon so don't think there should be an issue
