How do you get the upper storage tray out?

Installing some new pieces today. Had no problem taking them out. Removed the batwing and upper and lower storage trays.

However, parts supplier had a mixup and didn't send the lower storage tray.

I went ahead and installed the batwing and upper storage tray.

Had a problem running a wire for my ipod and now I need to get that upper tray out. It won't come out though. Looks like there are four tabs, two top two bottom. I didn't have to fiddle with anything to get the original one out, but this thing just won't budge. There were tabs on the original as well. I feel like if I pull any harder it's gonna snap.

Something else odd I noticed when trying to install the lower storage tray after the upper is that it won't fit. Appears as if you have to install the lower first, then the upper due to a raise center piece on the top of the lower tray.

Any tips on getting this upper out again? What a pain in the ***.

Just installed the lower tray myself. Just pull the upper tray straight out.

Stick your hand in the tray, open your hand as much as you can and pull. It's that easy

something's not right. it just won't budge. the original one slid right out.

may have to remove the whole black piece that holds the trays. When I pull on the upper, that black piece starts pulling with it. it must be bound up on something.

any idea how to remove that black piece that holds the trays and the batwing?

tried removing the torx screws (one on each side) to take the whole assembly out. apparently there is something else holding the whole assembly in. what else do you have to do to get that whole piece out?

are you guys sure those four tabs on the upper tray don't have to be depressed somehow? i can see the bottom two and they're hooked on the main assembly. like i said, not sure how i got the original one out. i can press the bottom two, but it doen't help me with the top.

mike from the turbo forum helped me figure it out. that piece was on there tight. took some toothpics and slid them in between the top of the storage tray and the bottom of the top of the lower console that it slides into. slid them in over where the tabs were until i heard a click and they released. piece of cake. i'll probably do a right up on the whole thing when i'm done for anyone else that might want to give this a shot. not too hard. there's just a few tricks that make it easier. unfortunatley my parts supplier is out of yellow lower storage trays so now i'll have a hole in my dash for a week
