KW V1 Coilover Height Adjustment DIY
#2
Adjusting the height of a car with coilovers is very simple. Here's a link
Just remember to adjust the front and back by the same amount unless you want to induce/reduce rake to the car. Remember that changing the rake will change the way your car handles. Coilovers are designed so that you are able to corner balance the car, but you have to have scales to do it properly. Lowering or raising the car also changes the camber and toe of the car. So after getting the wanted height, get your car aligned.
If you are unsure on what you are doing take it to a shop. Good luck

Thanks @Sleek for the link. It is certainly useful. I read from other posts that it can be a pain to adjust the rear end on a 996. Have you done it yourself? Any gotchas I should worry about?

Adjusting coilovers front or rear is the same, just need to turn the collar to the desired height. The car needs to be on jack stand or lift. The load need to be off the suspension to turn it easily. It can be done with the wheels on but it's a lot easier with it off. We change the rake often at the track with the wheels on. Just mark the collar and count how many turns so that you don't forget. Do the same for all 4 corners and that's it. Also lubricating the collar will make it turn more easily. Hope this helps

I thought the rear is harder because the perch is located on a tight spot (above the springs instead of bottom). But the DIY that I saw saw was on an Audi. Just want to confirm that's not case on the 996.

Hi Sleek, I did the adjustment today. Piece of cake like you said. It took some trial & error to get all 4 wheels to be the same height. I thought all 4 shocks should have the same adjustment measured from the collar to the last thread. Is it normal for them to be different? Thanks again for all the valuable advice.

Yes it's normal to be different, in fact when you get your car corner balance, the collars will be at different height. Even visual height and proper balance chassis height is two different thing, but I wouldn't worry too much about corner balance for a street car. Glad I could help
