Coolant dripping

It's green in colour and coming from the centre of the car.

It seems worse when the car's hot.

Obviously it's bad news. Anyone got any ideas how bad?

Cheers

Probably not too bad - most likely it is a cracked coolant tank, which is a very common and well documented issue - and a stupid design in that it is plastic. I had to have my tank replaced and I'm definitely not alone.

Do a search for coolant tank leak and you'll find plenty of info - you can replace yourself if you are handy.

Had a good trawl about and my leak is coming from much further up the car. Right in the middle. I'll see what the garage says in the morning...

First identify the source of the leak. It may not be under the center of the car, but could be running along the underbody panels before dropping to the ground.

Most frequent causes of coolant leaks are the coolant tank cap (make sure you have the most modern version, which I think is the -04) or coolant tank. The cap is simple to replace, and as leftlane notes the tank itself can be a DIY job if you have some mechanic skills.

If the leak source is truly at the center of the car (center, as in between the front and rear of the vehicle), then a leaking connection in the piping between the front of the car, where the radiators are, and the rear would be my guess. Also easy to fix.

Let us know what you find out (photos are great), and good luck.

As stated, check your collant tank, it could be leaking and the coolant is traveling on the undercarrage cover.

Unless I'm remebering incorrectly, Porsche coolant should be red.

Whatever the problem if you have a shop do it be sure to have them check other common problems. I had a coolant leak that appeared over the left muffler tip. After crapping my pants that my 911 was peeing on my garage after 3 months of ownership - it turned out to be the expansion tank. If that's the case here have the shop check the AOS and water pump so you can save on labor. I'm sure there are other things but those are the items I know about.

Hope it helps

Have a pressure test done for your cooling system....that should help locate/identify the source of the leak. Then replace the culprit.

center of the car, ie in front of the rear wheels, could be a bad hose.

Sounds like a bad hose or connection in the hose considering he says it is in the middle of the car. I just had a loose hose connection on the back of the engine on the drivers side. I tightened the clamps and was good to go.

Coolant tank usually drips from around the rear wheel. You should be able to smell the liquid and determine what it is.

Rufus, if you can post a picture of where you see the leak coming from, that would help. I think the guys are pointing you in the right track, it is most likely the expansion tank, water pump, or a hose.
