EVO Supercharger Owners' Thread
well, i never did a before run, but i guess we could use the magazines for that. what is a stock 996 3.6 doing in the quarter. low 13's I assume.
sure, what the hell. i'm game. i'll probably wait to do it at another porsche drag event. we just had one recently. i did not go, but Luis from the forum did. i figure it wouldn't be too embarassing to lose to another pcar. my ego would be crushed if i got beat by a 12 second civic though

anybody got a pic of the bottom of a pcar so i can see the exhaust plumbing? my car is at the dealer, so i can't go out and look at it.
just trying to get some ideas for the AF and EGT probes. i went ahead and pulled the trigger on the zeitronix package. will be here on Friday. i could have sworn that both engine banks exhaust plumbing meet in the middle somewhere, don't they? maybe around the cats?

never mind. i went back to page 8 and found mother's pic of his motor. guess i'm out of luck. they never meet anywhere apparently. just have to flip a coin and decide which side to monitor. maybe AF on one side and EGT on the other?
mother could you post another pic of your motor, but turn it all the way on it's side this time so i can the whole bottom end? thanks.

Sorry no can do!

here's a picture where the O2 sensors are and maybe a good spot to mount the EGT sensors. I think it would be advantagous to mount the sensors before the flange closest to the engine in case of a leak, although it they where after the flange then you would know if the flange was leaking. Any thoughts

are you going to do a EGT and AF on both sides?
i'm not sure i'm following you regarding checking for leaks? are you saying it was far enough after the flange that you could feel the leak, as opposed to if it was right before and near the flange, it would be tough to tell which was leaking?
as i'm only going to use one EGT and one AF sensor, i think my best bet would be to mount one on each side, since they both will more or less tell me the same thing.
have we been able to determine if either side runs hotter or leaner than the other? if that could be determined, that would at least give you your worst case scenario for each sensor.

Deputy I wanted to ask prior to posting comment, when you had your car dynoed which exhaust did they use for the A/F? Have they tested any other pcars? I would think they would have some info. I call EVO tomorrow.
I have asked a few people and none know the answer if one bank runs hotter then the other, the closest I came was from rennsports quote:
Hi:
I've never measured EGT's on these water cooled engines so I have no idea how even the cylinder-to-cylinder airflow is, but it should be close. I usually installed probes on every cylinder to get that information.
I'd pick an end cylinder and install your proobe within 2" of the port for accuracy.

They stuffed an AF probe into the passeger side exhaust tip for the AF testing. They have tested other pcars, but I did not ask them for a comparison. I probably should have. They are primarily nissan turbo tuners so Pcars are not their speciality.
Talked with EVO both banks are pretty much even so it would depend on where the easiest or more convenient place would be. I think you're on track in saying that one on each side would give you a good indicator and in the locations noted in the picture before the flange closest to the engine and do the oppisite on the other side for the AF or EGT. I would make sure they drilled the hole for the sensors slowly and with a new bit to make sure there are not any left over shards that may cause hot spots later.
Just my two bits.
Just my two bits.
Why hasn't anyone decided to upgrade the internals to some forged, lower compression pistons and maybe increase the boost to 1 bar? Seems if the motor is built for it 600 hp wouldn't be out of the question.
I don't understand why evo doesn't do a Stage 2 or 3 supercharger with some new internals like they do with the higher stages for the turbos.

Just a thought, I know evosport offers a supercharger for the e46 m3 with forged internals and it does run 22k, but makes 500 rwhp.

Oh, of course it would be cheaper to get a TT at that point but why not have the option? A supercharged car making big power might be an interesting alternative to a high hp turbo. Especially if you like the power delivery of an SC vs. Turbo. Not to mention if your budget doesn't stretch to a GT2 it would be nice to be able to have that level of power in a rwd porsche.

...and I'd say a company like EVO has the means to do it too*
