996.2 LED lighting upgrades
996.2 LED lighting upgrades
I have been really happy with upgrading halogen lighting to LED on my BMWs. I want to do the same thing to my recently purchased 2003 C4S.
In the past, I bought my LED bulbs from DDM Tuning and Amazon.
Interior LED upgrades are easy and trouble free.
BMWs use a light control module (LKM) to alert you to broken exterior light bulbs. The LKM monitors the resistance of bulbs to know when they're burned out. LEDs don't have the same resistance as halogen bulbs, so to avoid tripping the LKM you need to buy bulbs with additional resistors to fake the LKM.
Soon after I bought my car, I noticed one of the taillights was burned out. no errors in the dash.
Does my 2003 996 need error-free bulbs? I swapped the license plate lights with some non-error-free (no extra resistors) 36mm festoon 4x3535 bulbs I had laying around. After a couple of drives, no errors.
My car has HID (Litronic?) headlights. I'd like to update the front fog/driving lights to LED to match the white of the headlights. I also like LED driving lights for daytime use to avoid wearing out expensive xenon bulbs. I need H3 type bulbs, right?
Do I need inline error-free harnesses with resistors?
DDM has several options:

I like the COB + Cree for $9.59.
Thanks!

leds bulbs are fine with no resistors on this platform except when you go led on turn signals/3rd brake light....but all you need is a led flash relay. under dash on left side 12 bucks and you're set
driving light as in parking light thats inside the headlight housing?
it's a weird one...pins are 120 deg apart. make sure you get the right one especially that fits inside that small housing
sorry fog light....yes it's a H3
