I had the climate control moved in order to accomodate the double DIN NAVI screen. Turned out really nice.

nice D1. How do you like it? did you do the mod so you can watch flicks on it etc? I see you got the ext dvd because the d1 doesn't play dvd movies sucks huh? I was thinking about picking one up how do you like it? Is the software the same as the n2 and or is it the same version (most up do date)? Did you hook up the satellite and use the traffic routing? Cool feature. Do you have an ipod and are you using that interface so you can control it? I hear pioneer is having a lot of problems with it - it doesn't show names completely etc.

It's the Pioneer D1 Nav unit.

I only upgraded the head unit and have it connected through the factory amp and speakers. It sounds better then my stock unit. Much more base.

So far, I like the D1 very much. The Nav functions appear to be much better then the Alpine unit I have in my truck. The stereo sounds a bit better then the stock unit but I don't listen to the stereo much anyway so that's not an important factor to me. I much prefer to listen to the 996 engine sings. I did the mod mainly for the Nav capability. The DVD was just for fun.

The N2 unit is really nice but I don't need all the added functions. Besides, the double DIN unit fits and looks much better in the 996's dash, and it fits the bill.

Yes, the software is the same as the N2 but I'm not sure if the version I got is the most current (blue DVD). I believe Pioneer's web site shows the green DVD. I think both has 2005 stated on them so not sure what I have.

I did not hook up the Nav Traffic feature since I don't drive the car much anyway, maybe in the future. As for the IPOD interface, I forego that too. I'm not much of an IPOD fan (great gadget but over price).

Cool. For the install did you use a Nav center console or did you modify the existing one with 2 dins and the bar in between???

Wondering if modification by removing the bar could be reversed via like epoxy or something in case of putting the oem back in.

I believe from the factory the dash is double din opening which makes it an easy install. I'd suspect that I'll be able to reinstall the OEM unit in the future.
