Mmmm.... tasty headers
Mmmm.... tasty headers
Just picked up my new headers today. I'm doing some R&D for the manuf. on these. They're custom made for Suncoast Porsche motorsports in Sarasota, Florida. The collectors are designed and manufactuered overseas somewhere (don't remember) and they're completely assembled on the US west coast.
They were developed for the parts manager at Suncoast. Apparently they tested other header designs and came up with negligble or no HP at all. They took his personal 996 off the road for two months to dyno test and develop these headers. Apparently after months of cutting and welding, this is what they came up with. On his personal car, he claims 28 WHP at around 5K and 12 peak WHP. He's a track monkey, so he tried to get as much HP as possible right around 5K.
You can see their add and dyno chart on his car at:

They have been available for around a year and a half and are being marketed by other retailers now. They claim to have really good customer feedback on these headers. However, no one has tried a set on a supercharged 996 yet. That's where I come in
More impressions to follow this week. Trying to arrange dyno and install time so that I can do some back to back testing.

is there any bennifit to wrapping car headers like with motorcycles? reduced under hood temps and maintaining exhuast manifold temps....??? Maybe get them "Jet Hot" coated b4 installing?
Surgeon: They are assembed in CA.
Miykl: I don't know. I had thought about having them coated. Maybe I'll just use that "cloth" header wrap on them down the road. I can't imagine they put off too much heat into the engine bay since they are so low to ground. I'd assume the airflow underneath would be moving past them very quickly.

Sounds nice. These are magic numbers compared to all other mods I´ve seen so far. If a simple header swap could give me 28 WHP (30+ engine HP) at 5k rpm I would buy this product in a second!
However, as a mechanical engineer and journalist who used to race and test motorcycles for a living I may be a bit hard to convice...
I would love to be wrong (!), but what do these guys know that has eluded everybody else, including Porsche?....

i don't know. that's why i'm dyno'ing tomorrow. not sure how it will work with the SC though. they've got their dyno chart posted for whatever that's worth. i'm sure porsche is very restricted with the header design due to noise and emissions restrictions. who knows? they go back to the store if they don't work on my car
