Issues going to Reverse, 1st and 3rd
I have a 2000 C2 Cab. 96k miles.
All of a sudden, having a hard time putting the car into reverse, 1st and 3rd. All other gears seem fine. When going to any of those 3, it seems to just slide out.
You can put it in gear and hold it there and eveything sounds/feels normal. Once engaged, it holds fine.
Feels like a guide /holding mechanism broke across the tops area for those gears and just doesnt hold.
again, very sudden. Going to the atore had no issues. Going into reverse when leaving, not so easy. Same with 1st and 3rd on the way home. Unless I methodically made sure where the shifter was going and held it up until gear was engaged.
What am i looking at? Easy fix? Clutch? Tranny?
i will look in the morning, but I believe a new clutch was installed in 2016/2017 with IMS.

Have you examine the shifter cabling/linkage underneath the car? These are known pop out.

At the tranny, cables were in tact. Didnt have time to fully remove console and check and the shifter, but after seeing other posts on this, it sounds like the culprit.
Reading up on it, I am ordering the 997 shifter kit. Will replace and check cables then.

Forgot to mention, the right cable has a broken plastic clip. See picture.
I am assuming the only way to fix this is all new cables? For now, I have a hose clamp holding it together. Temp fix is holding.

Wow... was the shifter cable lock broken when you first examined it, or did it break afterwards? You think this may be the culprit?

It was broken like that when I got to it. But a hose clamp on it to hold it togther and it shifts fine.
obviously not a permanent solution, assuming the entire cable needs replaced.

Great news! Recently, I used a metal hose clamp because of the washer hoses (that are held together via plastic clips) kept blowing off under pressure. The metal clamp is still holding strong.
