Problem with 1st gear!!

I've been having some problems with my first gear. Occasionally when I try to put the gear in first (while stopped) it does not engage properly and I have to double or triple clutch to get it in. Has anyone had such a problem before? Could it be the clutch? I only have 25k on the car (03 996). I also don’t have a short shifter……

Same thing happens to me once in awhile. I just bought the B&M shifter. When I put it in I'm ging to use the P-Tool to check the cables and then see if the shifter helps. Everyone tells me it will.

Always a little hard to shift in the cold, hope you're not trying to down-shift into 1st.....

Mine has the same problem SD996
It won't go into 1st sometimes and feels like it's hitting a wall and will break if I push it.
Have you had a RMS issue with the car?
Mine was fine until my 2nd RMS.
When I picked the car up from service, I couldn't get it into first.
They 'checked ' the cables, etc. and couldn't find anything.
After living with it for a while, I complained to Porsche and got a call from the zone 'Rep' who insulted me by telling me "you've got some big gears in there and it can happen, blah blah, blah.
I'm still living with it.

Well this post is a sign of releif! I have the same problems. The most annoying thing is when it dosent engage in second and you grind it!

If you are grinding into any gear, that is not normal, no matter how many other people it happens to. Also, if the linkage is adjusted properly and the tranny is working as it should, you can shift quite easily into first gear at any speed less than 30 mph.

I think its my fault though. When the car isnt warmed up in the morning and I think its in second I touch teh shifter on accident without engaging the clutch thinking its already in (it should be). Then I get a slight grind. If its warmed up and im not a dumbass it goes in but stiff.

Thanks for all the info. This only happens in first gear and when the car is stopped and it doesn't make a difference if the car is cold or warm. It think I'll take it to the dealer to take a look.

If it happens when the tranny is FULLY warmed up, then there is
some underlying problem....
