How long did you look for a car?

I've been looking for about 6 weeks now and still have not found the right car at the right price. I've been close a couple of times, but had twists at the end of the deal that made it less attractive.

How long did it take for you to find "the car"?

I'm starting to get depressed... maybe I'm too picky, but if I'm spending this kind of money, I want it to be something with which I won't have regrets.

I can give it a few more weeks and then I may just have to buy a new M3 off of the lot somewhere, but I'd rather not.

Over a year.

I was looking only at used cars.
I knew exactly what I wanted.
I only wanted to buy local.
I mostly wanted to buy from a private seller.

I didn't stress over it, just kept telling myself that the car was only getting cheaper. In the end I found a car that was 90% what I was looking for and it was located only 10 miles from my house.

It took about 2 months to find just the right '03TT. I've kept an eye on what's available since and if this car hadn't come along I would still be looking ( I bought it just after Christmas). I was very particular about the color and options and of course condition. Be patient it is well worth the wait!

A little under two years. I was looking for, and found, the perfefct low mileage 928. Over that time I learned the many meanings of "concourse."

So are you saying you made a mistake by rushing?

My problem, in part, is that I need to be in a new car by the first of next month. I thought that a couple of months would be ample time to find what I'm looking for, but it sounds like most spend quite a while looking. Maybe I'll get lucky...

I saw the car I wanted, with the options I wanted, and I paid what the dealer wanted, what more can you ask for! But I did get a good deal FWIW.

Run, don't walk to www.thalist.com!!!

Let me explain...

I searched for 3 agonizing months nationwide on all of the auto search sites and even had a couple of dealers checking nationwide inventories. Porsche's are very individual and very few are exactly the same. I had about five specific features I had to have and it was very, very had to find the car I was looking for.

After 3 months, I discovered Thalist.com. It is a site where you submit your requirements and they are instantly mailed out to hundreds of high end auto dealers nationwide. So what happened? Within 4 hours of submitting my requirements, I got responses from two different dealers with cars matching my requirements exactly! I bought one of them the next day and have been giddy ever since.

I'm not kidding - after 3 months of logging on to autotrader, cars.com, etc... every single day, thalist.com found my car literally in 4 hours!

Highly recommended!

Done!

I've been doing the auto search sites and have wondered if there were other resouces. I've tried to get local dealers interested in finding me a car, but they seem to lack interest for some reason.

We'll see how this works.

Thanks!
