litronic headlights

hello, new to the forum but have been on this site for several months now and have finally decided to register. I will post some pictures of my 00 996 Cab when I figure out the technical aspects. Anyone have any info on retrofit litronic lights that come with all the electrical wiring and module whether if I connect all the wiring and the module the self-leveling action on the lights will work? I currently have it installed without the wiring which works just fine but does not appear to self level. The instructions on the kit states that the kit will not allow the "automatic headlight beam adjustment" - I saw somewhere on this forum that the retrofit will self level but will not adjust for high beam- Is that what the instruction sheet is referring to? I am wondering if going through all the troubles with wiring is worth my time if it will not self level. ( I love the way the lights point down and up to proper level when you first turn it on - like in my S600 and the Touareg) Thanks in advance.

The self leveling feature requires sensors that are installed on the driver side front and rear suspension. That isn't part of the kit. You could conceivavbly buy the parts and install them but you'd also have to fabricate the wiring as it's not part of your car's wiring harness since it didn't originally have Litronics.

You are not seeing the xenon beam rotation because you have not hooked up the control unit and the rest of the wiring. We show how to do it on the DVD. Jeff

The control boxes that came with the kit is for the Xenon light to adjust about 2-3 degrees up when the highbeam is activated. Sorry sence your car did not came with Litronics from the factory you do not get the auto-leveling feature.

Tool Pants,

You have some great products. I believe with the above type of advertising, you need to become a Six Speed Sponsor. Why don't you contact, Ryan, Darren or Duane?

I did. A few hundred bucks a year - or $1,600. We never made that in 5 years of working on cars with the DVD sales. Us local owners get together and work on cars. Free, like it has been for years. The DVD stuff is for fun and so we can recover our cost and buy beer.

From now on anyone from 6speed that shows up to our work on cars day will be charged a $10 entrance fee so I can pay.

thanks for all your inputs. I did spend 1 1/2 hours to complete the wiring with the control module (relatively simple to do) and still does not appear to self level. It is just the same as before when I had it in place with only the headlight assembly snapped into the housing. I have checked my install steps and know I did everything correct as stated in the instructions. Despite some of the inputs that the self leveling will not work on the retrofit kit, all those wiring and control module must do something??!!- Am I missing some other steps in the installation??? I am a little confused. TC

The Porsche Litronic upgrade kit does not include self leveling.
The additional control boxes and wiring allow you to rotate the two beams together for brighter high beams. Self leveling is not retrofitable (according to Porsche).

thanks Loren. I think the majority of the members input is as you have stated. At least now I won't be dwelling on the idea that I must be missing something to try to make it self level. TC

When a car is made with the lit option it has a sensor on the left front and left rear suspension. When you do the retrofit you do not have these sensors. When we filmed the retrofit there was a car there that had factory lits and we removed the wheels on that car to show the sensors.

I am on the UK and German boards and they say it is required by their laws to have the sensors and the headlight washers or they will fail the car inspection.

This makes little sense to me on our cars. If I was to put 500 lbs in my rear trunk then the headlights would blind people if there were no sensors on the suspension.

This is the front level sensor on a car with factory lits. Jeff

I just installed the retrofit kit and almost everything (rotation etc.)works just fine. I say almost because now the pass front turn signal and parking light doesn't seem to work, the drivers side is fine. I checked the bulbs and fuses already.... any thoughts????

This happen while we were filming once everything was together.

Back the headlight out and slide it back in and lock it down. Sometimes this improves the electrical connection. If that does not do the trick then there are some other things to check.

Jeff thanks. I tried that already, but I wish there was a way to get my hands in there and make sure it is tight. What else can I try?
Thanks again.

I trust you have checked all the bulbs. When you lock the headlight in place you will hear a loud snap sound. I can lock in a headlight just by pushing hard enough. If it is locked in....

Take the lit out and push on the connector on the mounting plate firm. See if it moves.

This is the connector.
