some after break in first impressions
some after break in first impressions
I finally got to make use of my 996 C2, well some of its potential. I hit 2000 miles last night. So tonight, I took the car out for some fast driving. First, I starting taking the gears up to 5500 - 5800 rpm. I gave almost full throttle in first and second gear for the first time. In my opinion, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds is definitely under rated. Not even red lining the gears, I was over 60 mph in what seemed like right after I shifted into 2nd and back on the throttle.
Secondly, I nailed it in third merging onto the highway and hit over 80 mph before I even got onto the highway.
Overall, I know you all know this feeling, but it is new to me, so I am just excited. I still haven't even tapped the full potential.
One more thing: I came out of an E46 M3. I know the numbers are close, and people on this forum who have both cars and those who travel here from BMW forums will argue, but the 911 is so far superior in all respects. Just my 2 cents on a comparison that is constantly made.

0-60 in 4.5? not sure what you meant by under rated. are you saying you think it's faster than 4.5 or there's no way it would ever do a 4.5?
for that matter, why 4.5? isn't the official rated time 0-62 in 5.0?

INMO - the official time is not doing justice.
Let me clarify - Although the official time is 0-62 in 5.0 sec, I believe it to be more like 4.5, which several magazines have concurred in test runs.
In any case, it is flat out amazing!!

I'll need lots of advice when the mods begin
After owning 4 Bmw's the E46 M3 being the latest, I finally feel like I own the right car. It just feels so agile compared to anything I have driven, so responsive.
joecmess, I also have a 996 C2 (00, cab slate grey) and one of the first impressions I got when I drove my buddy's C2 before getting mine was how responsive, crisp the acceleration and the daily driveability of the car was. I run first and second gears to 5-7k rpm's quite frequently and love the rush everytime. But I have to admit, at times I wish there was more pull on the car. So, I find myself "looking" for a TT all the time on line. But like everyone says, this forum will make you a mod. addict soon. I have just a few mods e.g. B&M SSK, fabspeed cold air intake, alum/carbon shift, E-brake, alum trim rings, alum pedals, Eclipse deck/amp with MB Quarts, litronics, clear side markers- I keep looking for more mod ideas knowing that I will likely replace my car with a TT soon!! Well, I think like one of the Porsche ads says, "It's a testosterone thing" (pardon the female Porsche owners) TC
