Clutch 996 C2 vs 996 Turbo

I test drove an '02 996 Turbo at lunch today and noticed that it was really soft, it took almost no effort to engage it. My '01 C2 stock clutch takes a little more effort, which I like. Are there any differences in the clutches between the 2 cars? I'm considering the Turbo but didn't like the feel of the clutch at all and don't want to have to worry about having to replace it anytime in the near future should I make the purchase. BTW, if anyone's looking for a clean '01 C2 in Socal, I know someone who's selling...

There is a little "spring" (don't know what it's called exactly) that can be removed to make the clutch pedal firmer. If you bought your C2 used, it probably came with the "spring" removed.
Do a search on rennlist.

They're softer.. I drove a friend's turbo and the clutch feels like it was made for a 16 year old girl. But this can be easily changed. There is a helper spring that can be removed that will firm up the pedal. I've done this on my C2 and it feels sooo much better. Details here: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...d.php?t=343297

Thanks Guys! I just wanted to be sure it wasn't a sign of a clutch about to go bad.

Actually the opposite....the clutch gets pedal gets HARDER as it wears....so maybe the TT clutch was just replaced and yours is more worn....I noticed the same thing when I test drove a new 997 vs my clutch with 135k miles on it.

Thanks for the link. I'm going to remove that helper spring this weekend.

Hey Newport, if that's the case, removing the spring would be one of the first mods for the TT. Way too soft for my liking.

There's a symptom for TT's where the clutch pressure accumulator goes bad. That makes the pedal go to the floor VERY easily. Maybe the TT you drive had similar symptoms.

Having come from a C2 to a TT, my subjective feeling is that the TT does have additional hydraulic assist. Though the feeling is more removed, I think the TT clutch picks up at a more consistent point compared to the C2. At any rate, the additional hydraulic assist is welcomed when I'm chugging along in NYC traffic.

I removed this boost spring last year and it does give better clutch feel, should of been this way from the start.

The TT has an electro- hydraulic assisted clutch, that porsche only puts on TT's.
i wanted my shop to install in it on my previous 964. he said the parts alone would cost 10K,- so it would be cheaper to just upgrade to the TT.
instead i upgrade dto a 996. still working toward a 996TT with the fancy clutch.
