155mph in my 2003c2 6-speed

thats as fast as i dared go. and i was puckered . car was pretty unstable. even at 120mph, the car wanders around quite a bit.

a couple years ago i did 165mph in a f355, and that car was much quieter and stable as a rock.

what gives? do i need alignment? maybe there's some kind of toe adjustment to be made for next time. the car tracks straight at regular speeds.

the 996'es i've driven seem to all get very light up front at speed.

Sounds exactly like my brother-in-laws 02 cab. I know exacly what you are talking about, feels nervous, and spongy. I would start by tightening up the suspension, i.e. shocks, springs, coil overs etc...

?? My car (99 C4 coupe) with a stock suspension feels great at 155. No worrys at all. I do have factory areo kit though. Seems like you might have something wrong, what type of tires, suspension age ect should be considered.

same here...

feels very spongy as well at 100+mph...

My NSX and M3 were much more solid at those speeds...

i have h&r, 18" carrera light wheels, no uneven wear on the tyres.

a mechanic had once explained to me that 996's are light up front at speed due to the angle of the struts not being vertical enough. and that the cayman and 997 have this situation much improved. this is my only complaint regrding the car dynamically. crosswinds really upset it, and it wanders at speed.

it feels like it needs a bit more downforce up front, since the tail is planted at speed.

I went 165...It had its rough spots but not overly threatening...

Obviously if there is no fear then you have no respect for the car(not a good thing)

Could the aero kits on Icemanns and my car make that much difference? I have a GT3 rear wing and factory nose, side, and rear winglet aero kit. 18" pilot sports and stock suspension. Don't get me wrong triple digits get my attention but I do not feel that the car is nervous.

but, but, but.... I thought P-cars were supposed to handle so well. That clumbsy viper that handles like a dump truck (so most claim) is so stable at 170mph you can take your hands off the steering wheel.

Tighten everything up, drop it, and spend some time getting to know your car. No porsche should feel unstable at 120mph.

Are you at stock US suspension height. I would think that is the problem. Either an Aerokit to change the airflow or the euro suspension which actually changes the angle of the car so the front lower than the rear more this forces the front suspension down from the wind.

+1
I open it up almost every time I drive and 120 has never made me even put my right hand on the steering wheel. 2001 C2 Cab, stock suspension and shoes, with Aero and TechArt 2 Fixed Whaletail.

Unless you know of a good race track, yes public roads! I was out in rural utah for my speed runs. Not a car in sight and miles of visibilty so not much danger to others.
