Audi RS6 Avant chasing a Porsche 996 C4 on Nürburgring

A Porsche Carrera 4 being chased by an Audi RS6 Avant on Nürburgring.

Down Fuchsröhre. Can you imagine how irritating it is for a Porsche driver to see the Beast in the rear view all the time?

Through Adenauer Forst - still in his rear view.

Bye bye!

Very bye bye!

A view from the parking lot, before the crowd arrived.
A Carrera RS to the far right.

Hmm...

I guess the C4 driver just wasn't as good a driver.

I would think the C4 could easily outpace an RS6 Avant on a tight track. The C4 weighs 1,000lbs less than an RS6 Avant.

I don't think the 150HP difference is enough to compensate for that, not on the track.

They stopped making the C4 Coupe for MY03. In MY02, you could still get C4 Coupes and Cabs.

150HP make a difference!!

I have the video of the Lotus Exige (race-ready pumped up Elise) chasing a C5 Corvette ... could stay on his back in the tigher parts, but when they reached the last stretch, the Vette disappeared.

Know nothing of the drivers, though...

The driver of the RS6 Avant has about 60-70 laps around Nürburgring.
The driver of the C4 has about 250 laps.
They are both good drivers.

150 hp makes a difference. Yes, but how about 4 people in the car making the RS6 I'd guess at least 500-600 kg heavier.
The C4 can run lap after lap, the RS6 cannot.

Why are everybody looking for excuses?

I did not post this to start a flame war, just show you some facts.
The RS6 is faster than the C4 with the same driver (check sport auto). In Fuchröhre (1st pic) the RS6 has about 20 km/h higher speed.

I love the look of the C4, nice color too. Is that wing stock or mod?

I don't think there's a flame war. I'm actually very impressed that a near 4,500lb sedan + Passengers can outperform a 3,300lb sports car. Much of it depends on the track, and the Nurburgring has some fast straights.

Incidentally, the new US Elise was 2 seconds faster than a 996 on the Barber Motorsports Park.

I guess the ideal is light weight AND lots of power, but you can't have it all

I'd put the emphasis on power, thank you ... lol On 1-11 , you can d/l a vid of a little Elise (lighter and more powerful than stock) running around the track, and while it does perform outstandingly in braking and curves, it just can't hang with the big boys in acceleration. The comparison Elise/Enzo is pretty funny.

Anyways, the nurburgring track must be a big one (I mean fast). I remember the BMW X5 LeMans (with the 700hp V12 race engine) lapped faster than a GT3, and it did weigh a lot more! Agreed, the brakes on the GT3 must last quite a bit longer than those of a 700hp X5

BTW, the best nurburgring video is the one of the P-car running around on 2" of snow ... awesome drifting all over

uh .. isn't the RS6 limited to 250km/h ???

I LOVE that video! Even more impressive: it was a Carrera 2, so only 2 of the wheels could get power. Now that's car control.
