Schnell AirIntake w/Tiptronic

2002 996 w/Tiptronic

Purchased the Schnell orange air intake hose from Schnell and upon installation noticed I had an additional 1/2" hose ??? Is it still ok to use the Schnell intake hose, and if so what should I do with the additional line ?
Cap, Leave open ??

It looks like some kind of vent line ?

Thanks

Its supposed to go back into the intake (only on the tiptronic cars) - both the K&N intake and the EVO sell a version for this (or give directions to drill a hole to put the hose into the intake. Take a peek at the attached K&N intake install - step 28 and 29

Thanks wlee69 . . your post is much appreicated. Looks like I will need to adapt a 1/2" fitting into the Orange Schnell Tube.

One of the Tech Support guys at Vertex said I could leave it un attached or plug it . . but I was not confortable with that option.

Thanks Again.
Chuck

I don't get this. Trans has nothing to do with the intake.

I agree, but its placement it would appear that the tranny connection hose is looking for vacuum levels ?? Possibly it is some of the information used to assess the cars performance for transmission profile mapping ? Vacuum levels in the intake specifically and variations would represent engine operation perforance I would guess?

For the tip, i'm sure this vacuum line is used to feed some sort of data to the TCU. I would leave it hooked up unless someone can post clear info on why it's ok to plug it. Actually, I would love to know!

I realize this thread is over a year old but did anyone ever find the answer as to whether it's okay to plug or leave this vacumn line unattached? I just installed the Fabspeed intake on my Tip C2 and realized that there is this extra line dangling with nowhere to go.

I just plugged it too but did assume it was a vacuum line to the transmission and somehow affected shifting. It felt like it did anyway. Would love to hear something though.

Chuck, did you eventually drill a 1/2" fitting into the orange tube to accommodate the extra line? If so, could you share how and what parts you used to do it? Thanks.

I left it dangling temporarily and felt that it did affect shifting. It felt like when you rev the car into high RPM the tranny would hold it there longer than normal.

Hmmm, definitely looks like the vacuum line goes to some sort of sensor in this diagram...

http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...-05/360-03.php

My guess is that it is item #13 (Change over valve) which seems to be part # 996-605-123-01 and that item #14 is the vacuum line going to the intake.

So, based on this I would "assume" that the vacuum line does effect the transmission.

Interesting info... I installed the "Red Tube" with intake muffler bypass, and ended up installing a small cone filter connected to the 1/2" tube. Even though it is not hooked into the main intake line, I have not seen any noticable difference with performance or shifting. I have been running with this setup for a number of months now.

I think the previous statements are correct in that this vacuum line to the intake does register engine vacuum which adjusts the shift points. If you look at the diagram it shows this "change over control valve" operating a "disk valve" that goes into the transmission.

P.S. Someone should give me a rep point for this research since I do not even own a tiptronic! LOL
