996 Coilovers
I am wanting to get some coilovers for my 996. just wanting to know what everyone's opinion is on these, and whats best for a 996 that only gets driven a few times a month, and couple track days a year.
Pss9 if you have the dough. Actually, there is a group buy on 6speed.
I have KWV3s, so far the best all-around set up IMO. PSS9s are soft for my taste, they are great though! JIC are very stiff and I think KW has both qualities of the PSS9s and JICs.
are the JICs just like any other racing coilover, where you can just swap out the springs at any race shop?
can you do that with the PSS9's?

I have the JIC's on mine, had Pss9's on my cab. Compared, the JIC are much stiffer, though the 9's were nice, i really like the JIC. I track mine and do a lot of mountains, so i really enjoy the flat feel to the car. Even a few instructors commented on how flat and solid the car felt while on the track with the JIC's.

Get the JIC's. Yes you can change out the main spring. If you are mostly driving it on the street get the 7/10 setup. If you plan on doing a lot of track days I'd opt for the 8/12KG spring rate. Great quality product and compares very nicely to JRZ RS and Moton CS for a lot less money.
You won't be dissappointed.

this is what i learned thru some bad experiences... you should try to avoid JICs, JRZs, (track suspensions) since they are adjustable.. and as a result of them being adjustable they usually need tweeking/tuning every few months.... i use to run JRZs on my car and b/c they weren't designed for the street and that i drive in NYC, my shocks kept on failing/leaking... i had to get them sent back for rebuild 2 times in 6 months...
keep it easy and stick with either PSS9 or H&R... i would vote for H&Rs since they are truly maintenance free!

I have a set of JICs (8/12k springs) that I got from vividracing.com - do a good bit of track days and these things are fantastic. I looked at the PSS9s, but through reviews, etc. felt that they may be more suited for "performance driving" but not for track days. Moton/JRZs just were too pricy.
JICs come with camber plates (at least in the front on most set ups) allowing you to be more aggressive with camber without paying an additional $500 for camber plates on top of the price of PSS9s. Quality is great - ride is a little rough (but you should expect that with any coilover versus stock shocks).
I also upgraded the sway bars (and drop links) to GT3 adjustables and Agency Power droplinks - makes things very adjustable - and you can dial out some of the "harshness" if that's what you prefer - either through the 16 settings on the coilovers or with the adjustable sway bars. As for continuously adjusting them, I haven't experienced any wear in them that would require this...I think if that's happened to folks, they probably need to have the shock bodies looked at for seals, etc.
Nonetheless - figure out what you intend to do with your car - if you are looking for "performance" or "spirited" driving, you'd probably do OK with PSS9s or JICs with softer springs - for the money, if you are going to track your car, the JICs fit the bill...

I have JICs (7/11 slightly more aggressive than the 7/10) and these are great at the track and autocrosses. These are really heavy duty units that offer great adjustability (Camber -2.5 F and -2.0 R with no issues). They also offer independent ride height adjustability. They're OK on the street as well but are rough on bad roads (SF). Overall, they are a good compromise. I don't drive my car on the street all that often so I considered the next spring level up but the JIC rep advised against it since this car would still be used on the street. I attached some pics of before and after the JICs were installed (along with GT3 sway bars). In comparison, I rode in my friend's 99 c4 with PSS9s and I thought it rode very similar to stock but was just a little stiffer/tighter. I figure moving up from stock shocks/springs is already a step in the right direction. At track speeds, the more stability the better
