996 2-button Key Sources???

Does anyone have a good source for a second key (with 2 button remote) for a 996? Seems the dealer cost on it is somewhere around $400...seems pricey for a key (although I do realize it is a Porsche, which does carry a "higher" cost automatically).

Any help (including from vendors) would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Damn! I attended the German Auto Fest last weekend and they had a swap meet there with a vendor selling a bunch of 2 and 3 buttons keys for $60.

Anyway, you can still get a really good deal on key flop with Sunsetimports.com. They have key on sale right now for less than $100.

You might want to try suncoast porsche as well. It is important that you get all the codes that come on the "white tag" of a new key FOB. I believe these are required for programming to your car.

Do you have to take these to your dealer to have them reprogrammed?

Yes, you need to bring to a Porsche dealer to have them cut and program your new key. My Porsche dealer only charged me $115 for the labor. Remember, with the new key that you purchased there is a tag with serial number that the dealer needs to have.

Again, Sunset Porsche has the best deal out there, period!!!!

Did you reset the key with the car? Try to open and lock the door with your key manually. Turn the key until the windows rolled down. Pull the key out and try the remote.

Do you live in O.C? Call me @ 714-725-9432. Peter is the name.

I have the same issue. I've been locking the door and setting the alarm manually. So there is a different way of "communicating" with the car via the key? Is there a direction or sequence/pattern? Or you just mess with it untill you get the windows to go down?
