How much off of MSRP are people getting on orders?
I've never ordered a car before, just usually locate one or get it off the lot, so how and when does one go about negotiating on the price? Is it possible to get anything off of MSRP, as I would assume your negotiating power is less than if you were buying it off the lot?

Good luck negotiating. I live in Seattle and found an October build slot on the east coast at Porsche of Arlington. I tried to get 5% and they would not budge. I really wanted the car so I didn't push it. They threw in a clear bra, car cover, and are covering half of the shippinmg to Seattle so I got something. I'm alittle disturbed to see the slight face lifted '09's but there will always be something new just around the corner! The market for toys I believe will be tightening heading into the new so I belive there will be deals to be had.
Due to low coupe production in 08 a discount on an ordered car will be rare, unless your a repeat customer with a token discount thrown in. Does not hurt to ask for small stuff like mats or first oil service etc however. Plenty of room to bargain on in stock 07's and 08's that have been collecting dust. Very location dependant however.

I totally disagree with you!
dealers get about a 13% discount off MSRP from PCNA. Paying sticker is a big mistake! especially if you think Porsche is going to decrease production. Porsche just reported record earnings, that doubled analysts expectations this morning, i tell you what, that wasnt because they are cutting back on production. My 997TT was the car that cost me the most money to own, casue you get NAILED selling the thing!
I tried to negotiate on my Nov. build car and they pretty much said "do you want it or not" as my dealer got only 3 coupes and this was one someone had backed out on. I am getting some stuff thrown in such as tint, car cover and a couple of small things. No discount on the car though.
There was no neg- on my order either. I want the car for my 40th in may and have a custom color also. $140,860 plus tax and handling. So it was also do you want it or not, and I do. Good luck though.
Yeah, the car I have configured is around $140k and as it's the last '08 build I would expect a discount given the upcoming changes for '09. We'll see... Btw, is $10k to save the build slot within normal limits?

I put $500 to order a Turbo Cab. In Southern California, $1000-$2000 seems to be the norm.
I put down $5,000 here in Colorado. That was the the minimum at my Denver Dealer. Porsche of Colorado Springs wanted 50% down if I ordered paint to sample! Needless to say, I ordered in Denver!
Just a tip for fellow 6 speeders, negotiate a few days after your ordered car arrives. Dealers hate paying the interest on these cars. I waited a week after my cab arrived and my dealer gave me 5K off sticker to close the deal.
Unless I'm missing something, you special ordered a car so I assume (which gets one in trouble) that a price was arranged at that time. To, after the car comes in, attempt to renegoiate the deal is morally and ethically wrong. The dealer ordered that car in good faith at a market price at the time. Once you sign or just shake hands, a deal is a deal. Sorry, but what you did was wrong.
