Cold weather recommendations for TT

Any special precautions to take with the Turbo in particularly frigid midwest weather, for instance engine warm-up, cool-down, special motor oils, etc? Besides the obvious not driving in icy, sleet, and snow conditions!

No - I'm in Denver and I just don't get over 4,000 rpm until the oil temp is above 180. The 0W-40 Mobile One is fine.

Drive it for 5 min under 4K, and you need snow tires. Of course, you have to deal with salt and other debris that'll damage your paint now.

Fully warm up the motor before taking it out...

Don't worry about cool downs...

I think most would tell you NOT to do this. Just start the car and go, driving somewhat easily until the oil and engine come up to temp. Starting it and letting it run is not the best thing - at least from what I've read.

Your biggest problem driving in the cold will be the loss of grip of your summer tires in the cold. They lose most of their grip once it gets below 50 degrees or so.

I completely agree. Any temperature below 32F and you are the tires become stone hard. Pretty dangerous making any aggressive moves, even with AWD. Get snow tires if you plan on any serious winter driving, otherwise bring the car out when it is a little warmer.

Nice to see that I won't be the only midwesterner using the TT as a DD in the winters.

warm her up in your garage before you head out, and yeah snow tires are preferred, but all seasons are good too.

Boston heh? Man was I looking forward to a GB v Pat's superbowl. I drove my turbo up to a friend's place for the NFC Championship game. Man was it freak'n cold...-30 wind gusts...but plenty of turbo power!

Yeah, what a sports year to be in Beantown, eh? I can't wait to get back to Chicago, though, I didn't bring my car out here and I'm jonesing to drive again.

I was looking forward to a Farve/Brady SB too, oh well. I was in Miltown before I moved out here, so I'm feeling ya bro...WI winters are bruuuutal.
