Yet ANOTHER domination for GTR...
Is this still going on? This has come down to more threads than the M3 vs RS4 vs C63 vs GTO vs.........
If this was a www.carenthusiasts.com board then I would understand the constant debate between cars and magazine races but this is absolutely getting tried and boring. It is like debating politics or religion. No one wins and in the end it doesn't really matter. It is a COMPLETE PERSONAL PREFERENCE and you can't change the minds of those who already believe what they believe. It doesn't make them wrong because they believe they are right.
Nissan has a good racing heritage and as one poster said the SKYLINE has all but been erased from this car sans the round lights and the multifunction gauges. Does it make it a bad car? By no means but it doesn't make it better than sex? By the way some people hype over this car it would seem they would like to stick it up the tailpipe of the GT-R before the tail of a woman
Okay perhaps a little overexaggeration but you get the gist.
We debate over things all the time but this is like bringing back a bad hangover over and over. Can we move on?
Before you ask me why this bothers me so much - IT DOESN'T. I just like to type

Every mag seems to conclude that objectively the GTR is a higher performance car by a slight margin.
That's a great achievement but does not really affect what I want to drive. My 997TT is modified so I doubt a stock GTR is quicker. Until one can buy a GTR in America with reputable mods to equal my car's hp/weight ratio, it would not be a higher performance car to me.
Also I prefer the exterior of my 997TT, but REALLY dislike the GTR interior. It is such a mess. Porsches are OK in that dept, but BMW and Mercedes are even better. That GTR interior looks like 5 designers came up with five sections of the interior and put them all together at the final moment without ever meeting each other beforehand. I love electronic and gadgets, but they can exist in a harmonious and aesthetically-pleasing way, not like that total chaos.
Ride is also important to me and it appears that the GTR is very stiffly sprung as reviewed by Autocar last month. that is important for me as a daily driver.
Finally, we will have to see how this car holds up after injecting another 100hp onto the drivetrain, when such mods exist.
I do say that at $70K, its a great car. But we have seen a $70K car that is in many ways quicker and faster than a 997TT before. In fact, I had one. It came out almost 2 years ago. It is called the Z06. That did not seem to kill the 997TT market. In fact, it made me go back and buy another one. And they are now selling all over the USA at invoice or less. Most Porsche dealers don't even have new 2008 turbo's to sell to or order for anybody. Which goes to show sheer competence in terms of speed on a track or your favorite canyon road does not guarantee market success.
I bet the GTR will sell for MSRP within 6 months after launch in the US. They are making a lot of them, and to a lot of people, a Nissan is a Nissan and a Porsche is a Porsche, and it does not matter if the Nissan can run rings around a 997TT. A lot of $100K car buyers do buy cars more than just for its performance. It will certainly take sales away from some M3 buyers and some C63 buyers, but not too many 997tt, F430, Gallardo, SL63 buyers will forgo their choice to drive a Nissan. I was in a focus group a year ago put together by Lexus promoting the LF-A. We had a panel of 10 people who owned F430's Bentleys, Porsches, Aston Martins, etc. EVERYONE said they would never buy one, and when asked why, they all said, "Why? Because its a f%^&ing Lexus!" Now that was a Lexus, a much higher brand than Nissan in the US. This is not to say that there are no real car enthusiast that would buy a great car no matter what the brand is, but there are far more $100K plus buyers and their wives or husbands that will condone a $150K Porsche but not a $70K Nissan. (Look at the Phaeton as an example.) If they had called it a new name under a new franchise, maybe it would do better. In the US, I think there will be more people willing to buy a $100K ZR1 than a $70K Nissan. When I can walk into a dealer get get one at a discount (which I think by February or March 2009), I may buy one and see what its all about, but not in the expense of my 997TT or any of the other sports or GT cars I mentioned above.

and actually production will remain low on the GT-R. also the badge the wears means nothing. its about how they feel and perform. also how livable and reliable they are

Terrence is right on the money.
I wouldn't buy an F-ing Lexus.
I probably wouldn't buy an F-ing Nissan either unless I was in the mood to pretend I was some ricer boy.
Pulling up to a hot nightclub with a hopped-up Altima coupe is not my style... it's one of those cars that they'll park in the far parking lot.
At least my Porsche gets front spots at hot places, even in the presence of Bentleys, Ferraris, etc.
I am about the performance too. But why buy a Nissan GT-R when I can buy a GT2?

thats the snob side i dont understand. Plenty of people with plenty money buy jap cars or anything else. this is how i will never become no matter how much money i make
im sorry you are so narrow minded to think that the more money you spend the better
240ka...on the crusade to rid the world of Porsche enthusiasts who don't like the GT-R. If you don't just absolutely LOVE the GT-R, you must be a "hater." (sarcasm intended.)
Are you really going to try to tell me that the GTR is superior to a GT2?
And besides that, from an image standpoint, I don't know where you hang, but rice rockets are a bad look in the LA "scene." Plain and simple.
You just don't get it. I am spending more money for the better CAR! Period.

but the Spec V i believe will be superior to the GT2
who cares about the LA scene. that shows that you care what people think. I dont.
i buy a car for myself not for other people to know what i have and see me in it

Going from 7:38 (supposedly) to breaking 7:32 on the Nordschliefe is not going to be an easy feat. Especially since Nissan claims they're not going to add any additional power to the V-spec.
Let's see if your almighty GT-R V-spec can best the Carrera GT, which is where the GT2 is today. Once Nissan circulated a rumor that their R34 would be the fastest production car around the Ring ever... well, that never happened.
Either way, I won't be losing much sleep. Because they'll have a GT2 Mk. 2 or 998 GT2 by then anyway...
As for your last point, you live in Florida so that's why you don't get LA either. The opinions of people in Florida don't matter much anyway in regards to taste or trends... NY and LA is where it all happens.

i dont need to pull up in front of a club with an expensive car to get girls or anything like that. second i dont want a gold digger of any sort.
my looks and personality gets plenty of girls. im a car enthus. not a badge *****

I haven't dissed the GTR, I just think you're annoying as heck about this bull crap. It's a Porsche forum, buddy. I actually do like Skylines. I went for one heck of a ride in a modded R34 a few months ago.

It's funny you mention image helps boost your self esteem in your first paragraph thing. I scroll down and you're saying how hot you are.

I seriously just laughed at this post! Please, post your ignorance on another board.
an do u hav to post lik this?
ignorance?
well i never said anything about how HOT i was. I said that i rely on my good looks and personality to get girls. not the car i drive.
if you got out of that im saying bragging that im Hot ****. thats on you. but its called reading comprehension

Why don't you take time to re-read your post. You said you rely on your personality and looks, I think that classifies as saying you're 'hot'.
Please, make yourself look stupid talking about cars, not looks.
