Nissan GT-R Superior?
This might be a tad faster and perform at the highest levels possible today, but not a porsche...
Get over it. I love Porsche, but if Nissan has really created a car that outperforms the 911 Turbo for 70K I don't see how this is bad?
Competition benefits us...the consumers.
This is one of the truest statements I have ever seen in this entire forum and really goes a long way to explaining this whole odd debate.
People without enough money to get what they really want LOVE to point out that cheaper but comparable options are available. They say things like "I would never pay six figures for a car" when what they really mean is "I can't afford a six figure car and am bitter as hell about it." They point out cars like the GT-R thinking that we are going to break down and say "OH MY GOSH! I sure wish I hadn't spent that much money on my 997TT when I could have had a GT-R." The sad reality for them is that most of us - if we were so inclined - could just go out and buy a GT-R too and have both. Where is it written that you can only have one super car? People with few resources love to tout their practicality. But the fact of the matter is, if you have little to spend, you have no real choice.
I think the Car Magazine article is a perfect example of this. Even though the GT-R only beat the 997TT by amounts imperceptable to 95% of drivers, it ranked it last among the cars tested simply because it cost the most!
What a joke.

Wow, more noobs in the GT-R threads than you can shake a stick at.
Chevy has created a car that can outperform the TT for less than 70k, and Dodge for about 80k.
I'll answer your question.
Is GTR superior?
If you are only talking about performance, yes it is. (Although people hate to admit it. And they will deny it to the end)
But when you look at over all picture, 911 Turbo is still the best car you can buy. It has luxury, performance, looks, the whole package.
So the answer to your question really depends on what your definition of 'Superior" is. The whole package or just the performance.

the only people that should care or be concerned about every single performance number are those that will be using every bit of the car and tracking it. Otherwise in terms of performance a gt-r that cruises at 50mph on pch will have no advantage than a porsche turbo in the next lane over and the same visa versa. ( which is what i imagine 90% of these owners doing anyway).
different strokes for different folks.
By the way, the GT-R that road and track tested at buttonwillow was a premium version on Bridgestone R compounds, where as the z06 was on 20" run flat 220 tread ware rating street tires. I haven't had any experience with either tires but i'd guestimate 1-3 seconds in time based on the tires alone.

How did this go from a question about a new car performing well over the Porsche Turbo to a statement about people without money? A 6 second gap at Buttonwillow is well above "amounts imperceptable to 95% of drivers". At that track, 6 seconds is the difference between a GT2 and a Boxster.
6 seconds? I call it BS. Which cylinder on Porsche was misfiring? I cant wait for the ring times...
The only thing I know for sure from what I read thus far, is that GT-R is easier to drive. Therefore it’s only normal that magazine testers are getting better lap times with the car and are raving mad about it. However, I no longer believe what the papers say; I should know, I am a journalist myself. :-).

I always look at magazine articles as a source for entertainment. You read them not because they are factual, but because they pass the time and provide a source of entertainment.
The GT-R's numbers are impressive, to say the least. At the end of the day, it is just another option to go with. Personally, I prefer my cars to have as little computer control as possible, which is why I'm not really much of a fan of the GT-R. Give me an old sports car that may have anti-lock brakes, lol. That is fun to me. I want to be as involved in the car as I can be. I'm quite sure that the Porsche still requires far greater materials, far greater build quality, and far more engineering behind it to make it as good of a car as it is over the Nissan. It may not be as quick, or lap as quickly, but what Nissan can you name has the build quality of a Porsche?
And I am one of those noobs you can shake a stick at. I just thought I'd put my two cents in anyway.

While a high percentage of those who frequent this forum track their cars (or at least claim to) no more than 5% of the entire pool of 997TT owners do. I can tell you this, no GT-R is gonig to be 6 seconds ahead of me from street light to street light or on the I-405 at rush hour. That is as close to Buttonwillow that most of us will ever get.
Hell, I like the GT-R and would be happy to own one. But not ahead of my 997TT or my modded SLK55 for that matter. But as a third car for weekend driving? Sure, what the hell.

If you're suggesting the GT-R didn't run the 1:56 at BW#13 then I suggest watching the video.
I think all three cars are great cars but its really what car gives you that warm feeling all over. For some it may be the GTR and others it will be the turbo. For me I love the way the Z06 looks but can't stand that corvette mid life crisis image.
