"im still confused how having Millen drive the GTR somehow helped the GTR? He WAS a nissan factory driver for a period of time but also drove for FORD and GM among others. Not to mention he has NEVER driven any sort of GTR competitively. His nissan tenure was in a 300zx which is RWD."- quoted from another source

I come to these forums to enjoy and educate myself on the one thing in life that I enjoy most...cars. All types, all flavors. Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, Vette...Model T, Camaro, Hundai, I don't care, I love them all. Bring on my new Autoweek please!

Automotive advancements are facinating, and when I read a headline that separates a car from the field like the GT-R has done, I can't wait to hear verification of the results. In the interim, let the debates rattle on. It provides fuel for us all.

On a softer note, I am stoked to be driving again in this year's Long Beach Grand Prix in SPEED GT. Although a Viper Racer, I am a Porsche lover and have owned ten of them. If any of you are making the event, come by and say hello in our paddock. Porsche, Vette, Mustangs and Vipers will all be there representing. "Fellows" isn't there this year, but Andy and Mike will do the Caddies justice for sure.

Thanks for the great thread,
Stu Frederick

Stu,

Well put, i'll be sure to swing by and say hello. Best of luck out there!

Heavy Chevy:

I guess you will just have to see the track when you get out here, if conditions are bad, there is definitely a second worth of time. But don't trust my word for it, ask any one that has had any track time on the track or other time attackers.
Let me know if you have a link to your turbo, i'm always interested in enthusiasts to the track. Buttonwillow isn't the nicest track by far on the west but it's one of the closer ones for us in southern cal. We just got back last nov from our track event at Laguna Seca and it was gorgeous.

Renissan GT-R (sorry not to be confused with real Skyline GT-Rs)? Not my cup of tea. No man pedal no care.

Some of you may find this thread interesting...

Someone has taken it on themselves to chant over and over that the GT-R is superior because it was "5 seconds faster" at Nurburgring and that "the 911 is flawed by design." LOL!

Wow bench racing FTW!

Bottom line is Nissan spent 7+ years developing the GTR and they nailed it. They are probably losing money on every one, but its a halo car and Im sure justified as such by the bean counters. It is not the first time the Japanese have built Porsche / Ferrari beating cars for less $$ and Im sure its not the last time.

Its great such opportunities exist for all types of customers and the net result is better performing cars for us all down the road as competition heats up.

^ I so agree with you...

We all benefit when the manu's compete against each other even if they are in disparate price points...

3. Sunny day.

You can't draw any excuses from that.

that means you'll never accept GTR being faster than both on tracks

yes it was the TIRES those all season dunlops make the GT-R so much better handling than the 997 turbo with PS2's, you must not know when the GT-R has light wheels it has all season tires and when it has dark wheels it has those mean RE070's

The test road and track did mentioned that the GT-R they tested was the premium version ( which comes with the RE070R's) however the tires listed was the dunlop's... I can't imagine this test was done on all season tires, can someone provide some clarification?

Just some more stuff to look at. Goes into details about gear ratios. etc. They say 911 Turbo and ZO6 will beat GTR in top end. Which sounds about right. GTR can't escape physics forever. Still very impressive if you think about it.

Some cars are better suited to certain race tracks, that's a fact. I don’t know buttonwillow – too far for me to drive there but as I said, I cant wait to see some ring times for GT-R. Yes it is quick - no denying it, but as I said 6 seconds ahead of the turbo is BS!

Is it just me or does this car get sexier every time you look at it?

Judging by how flustered people are becoming from these numbers, it's going to be interesting to say the least when the V-spec is taken to the tracks.

#1 He was not a factory driver for GM or Ford, he was just on racing teams that raced those cars.

#2 He WAS a factory driverfor Nissan, completely different level, and is one of the winningest foreign Nissan drivers ever, esepcially on US soil.

#3 He receivs support for his shop by and through Nissan. ow many tuner shops do you know that will have the last car from another country hand delivered to them every year by the manufacturer?

#4 the FACT is that Nissan has rewarded his stellar racing career by helping him promote his business, so the ties with Nissan/Infinity are as strong as ever. Smart for business, bad for neutrality.

#5 He's said multiple times that he's scared of RWD high hp cars. Not exactly something you'd expect from a pro racer, but said none the less.

This concept is not that hard to grasp at all, go look at his website and see the GT-R footage tattooed all over it along with the announcement of the GT-R coming to his shop for promotion. This is not rocket science. Where there is smoke there is fire.

Like I said it's mighty presumtious to say that the Corvette and Porsche would be the only ones driving on a bad surface, or that they'd be the only ones affected by it. Or that one car going off in one area could bring enough dirt on the track to take a second off of a lap. And that's assuming ANY of that happened, which I doubt mightily. This still does not account for the driver of C&D being on the same pace as Millen. You can watch the video of him driving and see the guys got skills. Not a chance in the world he's even in the same ballpark as a mag driver who's name most of us dont even know.

Nice ride though, I have a buddy with a supra that's pretty darn fast and I'm trying my best to get him into time trials.

You seem to have established this dirt on the track as law when there is no indication of it, and from the video I've seen of the GT-R and the videos I've seen of cars going off track and it being dusty, the track looks in great shape to me. Not only that the GT-R had to drive on the same surface, and would have been affected too, need we refer to Motor Trend where they say the dusty surface may been the culprit of the car not being what they expected in the figure 8? And finally watching Millen drive the GT-R it's pretty appearant that the guys got skills, but he constantly complains about high hp rwd cars, not something you'd expect from a pro driver (former or present). And certainly not in the same skill set as a mag writer who we dont even know.

I dont know what else can be said, it's it's not obvious enough now, it'll never be.

Nice car BTW, I have a buddy who pretty fast and I'm trying to get him to time trial his supra, he's low 1:40's at Road Atlanta on stock suspension and a lil' extra power and victoracer R comps, which is pretty darn good.

As for my car, I'm trying to add some NASA records to my resume (have one now at Barber), but I have this Pain in the butt shop corvette that has a weight to power ratio that's 3 lbs per hp less than me. And he's got a LOT more hp (like 200 wheel hp more) With mega downforce, and I dont want to make my car a race car. But I will to win. Battling a cup car this weekend at CMP, but it's my first time there and his home track so I only expect to be in the proximity this time.
