I was wondering whats the official word on tracking or auto-crossing your 997TT, does it void your warranty?

Does anyone have a link where I can read the full warranty info in regards to this?

 

I have not heard about anyone having their warranty "voided" just for tracking the car. That would be a pretty suicidal position for a company like Porsche to take. Just think about that for a minute.

On the other hand, I am sure they would reject a warranty repair if they felt the car had been abused-- whether on track or off. If a guy comes in with 4000 miles on his car, complaining about a fried clutch and his tires are bald, for example....

 

Not sure about Porsche, but I use to own a Lotus Elise, if I remember correctly the owner's manual or the warranty booklet does state that warranty might be void if we track the car ! Tell me who doesn't track their Elise ( at least most do ) !

 

I wanted to see if anyone knew the official word because I could have sworn that I remember discussions on this forum even where people were saying that the warranty would be void for tracking the car. Not sure if autocross applies.

 

first off i dont think the 997 turbo would do well in an autocross situation

but as for voiding your warranty? i highly doubt it, unless like stated above, the dealer sees MASSIVE abuse. But even then, i doubt it; if porsche were to void your warranty for using the car for what it was designed, they would be shooting themselves in the foot, no?

 

That would be the rational point of view, but in this case it really depends on what the legal warranty states. Does anyone know where it is located in our documentation, is it in the manual or should I look elsewhere for it ?

 

When I first bought my Cayenne S years ago, the local Porsche dealer hosted tracking events once yearly and invite us owners to drive our Porsches the way they were designed to be driven. Obviously no warranty issues.

 

I just bought a 2007 997TT with 4775 miles and it had 4 DEs (track days). It was also CPOd by the dealer so there is no warranty issue regarding tracking it as far as I was made aware of.

It did have a fresh set of PS2s

 

Not to change the subject, but what about dealers and chips/exhaust/intercoolers/cat upgrades? Anyone get any grief from their dealers?

I don't know about the warranty, but insurance is the big issue. Most insurers will no longer cover "ANY ACTIVITY ON A TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT TRACK - OR TIMED EVENT" This language is being installed into the fine print of most policies. If you have your car towed off track to file a claim, that turns into insurance fraud and then you go to jail! Pretty risky with these cars to track or even autocross them. There is an insurer that will give a very expensive one year police (covers 23 track days) based on your car value. BUT, your insurance company will find out if a claim gets filed. My track days with my own car are over (although heading to Porsche Sport Driving school in Birmingham on the 5th!)

Timed competition, ie AutoX is where the problems lie as opposed to drivers education events(untimed/non competitive). But, like you said insurer's have clamped down, I know USAA has for a fact(my co).
