In response to 997 Thread re: 997s vs M3 e??
And how awesome the M3 was at 420hp (stock).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Porsche in general is getting it's *** kicked.
Have you seen the new cars coming out?
A freakin Pontiac G8 GT (381hp) for $29,995
http://www.pontiac.com/g8/index.jsp
A Mustang Shelby GT 500 (500hp) for $42,330
http://www.fordvehicles.com/cars/mustang/models/
An Infiniti G37 (330hp) for $34,900
http://www.infiniti.com/g_coupe/standard_features.html
NOW compare these cars to:
Carrera Stock no options at all (325hp) $73,500
Carrera S Stock no options at all (355hp) $83,800
I understand they are far superior cars to the ones just mentioned. But you all must admit that Porsche is falling behind in the horsepower competiiton. It's not all about horsepower, trust me, I realize this. But horsepower equates to ***** and in addition to handling, I'd like to think my car had some ***** hitting the turns. And the argument regarding "ya but on the track, Porsche dominates" would probably be an ok come back if we did not spend 2-3 times the money compared to a Pontiac G8!!
Come on!! Especially on the Flag ship turbos! Once you start talking 120-150k for a sports car, you might as well slam on some options/mods from the factory that can get the car at least above 500hp??? Better with mods that can get 750hp!!! then **** ya, I would not think twice about buying the car for 175K!
Piddling in the sub-500hp range for sports cars >80k is pretty sad. I did it because it was not all about the power for me. But, my argument is more about Porsche keeping up with the industry. I still love Porsches and I will continue to be a loyal customer. What I expect in return is an effort on Porsches part to "show me the Horses!!!!" God knows we have all been "Showing them the Money" for many years!!!
Sorry, buy an M3? is not a 911 and it will never be.
Oh, all of the above ----->IMHO.

Can you just shut the **** up please? Porsche is porsche for a reason and it does not need to compete with 30k pontiacs or 40k fords. Go drive any of those cheaper cars and seriously try comparing it to a 911 and maintain a straight face (I bet you a gt2 you wont be able to do it) You should sell "your" turbo and buy 5 of those if it makes you sleep easier at night.
You even went to the extent of making this thread https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...d.php?t=130040 for no reason..it seems as if you buy the porsches and just troll and play devils advocate which is pretty embarrassing.

invid,
Relax already. Just posting thoughts that run through many porsche owners minds (maybe not yours). When you stand by the magazine stands, and read the front page articles on Motor Trend and Car and Driver, these are the articles.
Rationalizing the 997TT is a separate issue. It has nothing to do with buying 5 cheaper cars. It has to do with the feeling of owning one. The strange but great feeling. Sometimes surreal. That's all. Keep it light...
Again, my point is (and you can't argue this), "We would all love to see Porsche come out with more horse power!!" We pay for performance and horsepower is part of performance.

Porsche has never been about value nor have they been about sheer straight line acceleration or HP marketing.
Ive owned a Porsche for 3 months and I already 'see the light' and I dont give two thoughts about faster or cheaper this and that. There is so much more to ownership than Pontiac, Ford or Nissan could ever hope to achieve with the customer.

exactly, I bought a GTO 3 years ago because it was an absolute bargain (400/400 for less then 30K). Is it a porsche? HELL F'ING NO
and my dads 997S walks me in a straight line. Taking the 997S on a 2,000 mile road trip this weekend

Porsche has never been a big HP company. They don't need to be.....their 355HP 997S is a mid 12 second car!! BMW's 420HP car is well over half a second behind it in the 1/4 mile. (and the porsche isn't a 1/4 mile car)

997ttt - why do you continue to ponder on the Porsche Purchase? If you are that concerned then sell it and get something else.

I just drove one of my architects 02 Z06, and it is a piece of junk, my C4s will blow this thing away on the track and a straight line, my first time at the roebling road track I hit turn 9 at 104 mph an instructor in a 2007 Z06 bragged that he took it at 97 mph until he had heard that a first timer was 7 mph faster. My old Boxter had more handling ability than my 95 corvette, thats why I changed to PORSCHE, there is no substitute, by the way I put my name on the list for a new 09 turbo at Brumo's last friday I guess that 07 Z06 didn't impress me.
997ttt, how much hp does the 08 rsr engine produce? are u proud when the lizards win a 6 hour race on a ridiculously bumpy track like sebring? do u drool when u see the cup car? my guess is no, and not only because of your comments but because you're getting a turbo cab. for me, porsche is about engineering (a little weissach in every car) and competition. i can't believe you'd even mention some disgusting american car on this thread.
i see the point from 997ttt. however, we can alos look at it from different angles: compared with lambo, ferrari, and other supercars with similar hp, the tt is a bargain; then again, if a casio watch would just do the job, why people still buy a ulysse nardin?
at the end the day, when money does not matter that much anymore, you always want to get something that make you feel good and different from the crowd.

But just to humor you . . . Sure, the Z06 and the Shelby Mustangs get more than 500 hp - but from a 7.2 liter (Z06) and 5.4 liter (Shelby) engine and at nearly 4,000 lbs each!!! I won't even address the obsurdity of bringing up the Pontiac and the Infinity . . . The 997TT gets 480 hp from a 3.6 liter engine at under 3200 lbs! Can you imagine the difference in acceleration and handling without all of that mass to lug around?!? You can inflate hp numbers with larger and larger engine blocks all day long just to reach the magical 500 hp plateau. But then you aren't driving anymore - you are sailing a yacht on land. 500 horses may look nice on paper. But it is all about weight/displacement to power ratios and efficiency in the real motoring world. Why do you think Formula 1 engines are, at most, 2.5 liters?? Bigger is not always better my friend - even if it means a few more meaningless horses to drag your overweight pig of a car around. Just dropping 30 lbs of unsprung weight from a performance car can feel like adding 15 hp. Just think of what a 480 hp car at nearly 800 pounds lighter than a 500 hp car feels like! A different world. One you should experience first-hand if you ever get the chance.
I have a modded SLK55 AMG Mercedes with under 500 hp that has crushed so-called 500 hp monsters because it only weighs 2,900 freaking pounds. The proof is in the pudding when you actually drive these cars.
I'm not trying to be rude, but your posts are just ridiculous. Both this one and the prior post about rationalizing a 997TT make you look like a total POSER. Either you are just not that smart or your research sucks. It could be a combination of both. Either way, you really need to be told how ridiculous you sound.
That's IMHO as well.

I can see both sides of the coin here. However, I feel that there is more to Porsche than just horsepower. I love the way my 997 feels, its nimble and light. Driving my car not only gives me a sense of accomplishment, but it also opens my eyes to other aspects that make a car great. For example, a great chasis and excellent stopping power.
Not to take anything away from the vehicles that were initially mentioned above, because I am sure that for the money they are decent buys, but there is a reason why they dont cost as much as a Porsche. And on a performance scale, I am sure that their horsepower would mean very little when put on a track or twisty road with a 997. Eitherway, I feel that the current horsepower of the 997 is impressive. And to satisfy everyone, the generation II 911s will have even more horsepower.
Just my two cents
