racking my brain - tip or 6 speed
recently raced 4 laps around CA speedway in Fontana in F430, Porsche turbo (tiptronic), Lambo Gallardo Super, AM db9, and AMG black - and now i've got the sports car bug
question - i'm looking for a daily driver that has supercar capabilities - 911 tt seems like the only option - will be 95% daily driver but will take to the track maybe 3x a year (hopefully) - so question is 6 speed or tip?
all the car dealers are pushing me for tip....they say it's faster...
2nd question - I live at the beach, so a cab would be nice, but i know its heavier and loses some handling stability, yes?
any thoughts?

i'm just wondering if it will be slower b/c they say the turbos build better with the tip so its faster
i just don't want to drop serious coin and be disappointed (if thats even possible) b/c i got the wrong thing - there seems to be quite alot of bad reviews on the tip

I have been looking through alot of the dealer websites, and it looks like there are alot of tips available, esp in cabs. If you are not ordering a car to spec, then I would guess the dealers are trying to move all the tips.
Tip = more braking
6speed = more downshifting and rev matching (sounds beautiful w/ a good exhaust)
I'm going with a 6speed.

I asked the same question when I was looking over my 997TT. I went with the 6 speed and will always be happy that I did. I would even take it over the PDK. To me, paddle shifting is for F1 cars and Ferraris. A Porsche was meant to have a gear **** and a man-pedal.
The only way to really know is to drive them both and make your own decision.

I went for tips...cause i will use in summer daily driver in the city with traffic...It more consitent is every run...No headache with burning the clutch and replacing it or clutch slipping or misshifting and destroying the gearbox...Easier to get most performance out it ...Stock Tips here beat all manuals even moded...Cause it u can built up boost before u launch and u dont loose boost btw gear changes and its geared lower the manual...+ my wife can drive me home when i am drunk
...
But if there would be PDk availible I would only go PDK or manual was faster then TIPs...

I went with a tip.. but I have a 996tt.. i prefer driving holding a coffee or cell phone.. cant do that with a stick.. it really depends on what you want from your car.. if its only street use.. I say tip.. it makes life easier.. you can always play with the paddles on the steering wheel to shift... 6 speed you do feel more connected to the car... but again I am just on the street..tip for me, and I am getting a new steering wheel that has the large F1 style paddles in place of the thumb paddles.
i am going through the same thing. i have a november build date. i am still trying to drive both. they keep telling me they dont have a tip to drive. i am going to the dealer tomorrow to finalize options.
PDK won't be out until the next engine redesign is available...Do you want PDK + turbocharged M97 "integrated dry sump" engine?
