Cross-post: GT-R versus 997TT at Thunderhill
Should I beleive Road and Track at all when they have the nerve to publish an R8 beating a GT2, and a GT-R beating the TT and Z06 by 5 seconds with a former nissan driver who has a nissan performance shop??? Or Car and Driver who changed their drivers in the lightning lap so a guy that campaigned the GT-R in the one lap of america??? Or tests like this where a 700 hp TT on R-Comps can barely beat a spec boxster????
Even best motoring with test drivers was only 2 seconds behind with a Tiptronic TT on crap tires. The manual has always been faster, and at this point best motoring may end up being the best guage we have. And let's not forget the GT-R had CF racing seats which likely reduced the weight by 150 lbs or like the weight of a passenger which is worth nearly a second.
On top of that, we hear complaints on EVERY car that comes out, the Porsche is too expensive, the Z06 too cheap feeling, why no bashing on the Ferrari type maintenance and 5k miles from the tires on the GT-R? 7k to change the brakes etc. Why did NONE of the British mags do an accleration test??? And proclaim the GT-R "quicker" without specifying what they meant. At first they wanted you to actually beleive it could outrun the TT in every way.
I've been calling b.s. on various mag tests long before the GT-R came out, for example the guys running a 3:05 in a stock TT and a 3:05 in the GT500 at VIR Grand...... Are you serious?? And now the GT3 is slower than a Z51 corvette on funflats????? And all of a sudden the R8 and TT are 9 and 10 seconds slower than the GT-R??? Mag test usually add up, but this mickey mouse testing they are doing is getting old, and I wont buy it. Because I've seen otherwise with my own eyes....
I'm not saying definitively anything, only that the TT has been misrepresented in most every test that has been conducted. The British mag tests were a complete joke, all of them. Evo mag does a one lap test in freezing weather, why??? So the GT3 woudnt walk away from the GT-R when the MPSC actually werent like riding on ice. The GT-R sells magazines though, and the more the controversy the better.
Look those are the tires that come stock with the car, if you were to change them now the car wouldnt be considered stock would it. even if you did change the tires, if you were to put that 1.5k or so into the GTR it would still be faster.

So how do you explain the 27 second time lapse between the TT and the GTR's Nordeschleife lap records and the 13 second lapse with the GT3. Oh, wait let me guess... its because of the tires right... is that what your going to say... am i right... im like a freakin Psychic ii swear.

I'm not getting into ring times again, but if you look around you'll see that the TT's time wasnt even tested by Porsche.
Do a search and you'll find the rest. That's if you arent a returning noob, fanboy, troll hybrid.
Which judging by your two posts, seems fairly likely.

WHY so much hate on a GTR man? You dont own 997tt or GTR, you drive a camaro right?
I mean why cant we just be car enthusiasts and praise both cars? Why cant you admit, yes its a great buy for the price, 997tt is amazing machine too, its different, its shows your class. I bet porsche could make it super stiff super aerodynamic super duper. But that was not the case, it was made for ture porsche people, it was made to continue heritage of 911, it wasnt made to compete with dutsun or make records on the ring. That was not the intention, it was polished again and agian to be better but it wasnt made to wow people because everyone knows how great 911 is, they dont need to PROVE to people anything!!
Now GTR on the other hand was always a spectacular 4wd SPORTS CAR. It was build to haul *** ETC. Nissan intended to **** with the world with r35. They made 1843894 passes on the ring with R35 to tune every single components. It was specifically build car to handle and to make somewhat a breakthrough. They DID GREAT JOB! It is great car but its a Nissan, yes i would buy it. I would buy 997 too. But they are different cars. But both are freaking awesome, its just about what will you choose and what are your needs and financial status. You need something sporty weird looking but very technologically advanced go GTR, you want classic 911 with nice curves, beautiful design inside out go tt, both awesome.
WORLD PEACE.

and oh yes, about the fanboy remark; you can acknowledge the marvel of another car without being labeled as a "fanboy" in the connotation you used. now if you were to say that i was a "fan" of the GTR than i would have to admit yes, yes i am. now there's nothing wrong with conceeding when a car that you so lovingly embrace is beaten around a track by another (especially when it took 8 years in development to achieve this feat) but to be in denial and to use conspiracy to back your claims is immature and childish.
I already said before that despite the performance differences i still believe the 997TT is the better all around car and that i wouldnt hesitate to take the TT over the GTR. so... in reality, in the connotation you used; i am and would be labeled as a Porsche "fanboy."

lol... as if thats supposed to mean something. and no you never got into discussion about the ring you kept avoiding it (perhaps a loop hole in your conspiracy?)

MEEEEEE ?????????? Of all people you accuse ME of avoiding ring lap times talk. This says one of two things, you've been here before and got banned, or you have been lurking. I'm inclined to beleive option #1.
Like I said, I've been through that in detail, so use the search function, or beleive what you want.

I've said a hundred times already that the GT-R's that ran the ring were ringers. The back straight is the smoking gun, end of story, there is no possible explanation for that. And it's likely many of the press cars are too.
I'm not really feeling this story too much though, something seems odd. Doesnt sound like something Porsche would do at least to put in the press. And I would expect a 911 engineer to be able to drive a 911 better. I still think the two are dead heat driven properly. But remember, even Horst said that the 7:38 time was too fast and he didnt believe the car was capable of such a time, and Horst is pretty respected in terms of his ability at the ring. So there is a reoccuring theme here.
I have no doubt whatsoever that the GT3 and GT2 are faster.
But, if the TT ran 7:38 with an engineer driving, then a) It's faster than the GT3, or b) He's faster than Walter but since he's 2 seconds off in the GT2 it suggests otherwise. If this is true then it's sloppy by Porsche. Very confusing. HOWEVER, Horst von Suarma said the same thing, he didnt think the car was anywhere near a 7:38 car when he drove it. So there is a reoccuring theme here.
Still confusing because since Porsche didnt publish a time in the TT, then Walter would likely have been faster in that too, making it a 7:36 or so car, if he actually tested for a time in it. But that would create a rift in the heirarchy leaving the GT3 odd man out as would the GT2 if it had run the 7:28 that walter was quoted as saying it ran (regarding the CGT).
Either way, Porsche needs to put up or shutup, but the GT-R was still a ringer........

you know what! I think heavychevy is so protective and in denial about GTR but that because, DEEP INSIDE you know you want one. I think its a psycological case. We need a Dr. Phil on this case or smth. I mean seriously, who the hell in their good standing would fight and write all this BS about the GTR. Come on. I come here to brawse and read about 997tt and all i see is heavycheavy posts all around 6speed defending 997tt or smth. Dood move on. LIfe is beutifull, filled with beutifull cars, its not about who faster, ugly, or who cheated. I seriously dont understand why cant you let this topic go.
There is NOTHING about me that wants a GT-R, that I can assure you. Nothing about it is appealing to me, I ike a car that challenges the driver to master the car for results, not that was built to be easy to drive. The weight of it and nannies take away from the whole experience, I dont want to feel nannies doing everything for me, see how much I post about how I hate PSM.
Dont worry about what I'm posting, I'll post what I want too. You pop up here and there to post what you can about the latest mag test with the GT-R then you leave for a while, why not make it an extended vacation??
And if I'm not mistaken, you have a GT-R, so I guess you can outrun my "camaro" if we ever meet at the track some day.

interesting read... only time will tell. but if they were to lie and cheat by using a modded gtr, how would they expect people not to find out? i mean theres bound to be personal gtr's driven on the track.
someone write to top gear so we can get the stig to take a lap around the ring.

1:19.7 (i think)
Nissan has pulled tricks at the ring before to make their cars look good, so why should it be any different now? And, very true, we will soon find out. My money is on Porsche to continue being the builder of the best racing and road cars around.
