GIAC flash
There was another member that was going to use Fabspeed Cat by=pass pipes and bung extensions..
I was curious about if the no cats with bung wouldnt trigger a CEL
I know if you have a track car the ecu can be flashed for no cat's

thanks for the info,i had the fabspeed with the 200 cell cats for about year, then i got the giac flash like 5 month ago and last week i got a check engine i took it to the dealer and they told me it was the cats that were faulty i ask them if could run with out cats and they said the program is made to run with out cats but they want to put thier exhaust tubi racing.i think thats bs
The 997TT is pretty senstive and sometimes will do this. If you made it a year with the cats you were probably ok, but they could be going bad. Either way you could ask GIAC to swap to a Euro program and it would cure it.
There is a slight problem with having it programed out. Your O2 sensors send readiness codes to your ecu and inspection stations and dealerships look for these codes. There should be 4 I believe, one before and after each cat. The software eliminates the rear O2 sensors readiness codes so that they don't read what's passing through them. When an inspection station or dealership hooks their cables up and your only showing 2 out of the 4 readiness codes, they may fail you. I would try to pass with bungs or buy the tubi race exhaust.
All late model 997Twin Turbos, Caymans and 997 cars and 2009 997 cars are very sensitive. You have to request that the sensitivity on the 2nd o2 sensor be turned off or raised very high. Raising the tolrance default level is a good idea.
It is shame that Porsche set the 2nd sensor's tolerances so tight. Ferrari and Italian exotics dont seem to car and can be tricked off easily.
Very long O2 simulators like TUBI has welded onto their exhaust will for an "extended period of time to keep the CEL light off". However, it is an extended period of time and eventually any and all late model watercooled Porsche cars with wideband WEIGO O2 sensors will set-off a Check Engine Light (CEL) when you operate the car with no catalytic converters or catalytic converters with low efficiency. When you put on either enough miles or strat the car often enough (key strikes for igintion sequence) eventually the computer will setoff a fault code.
Only specific programming aimed at eliminating the CEL or raising the 2nd O2 tolrance threshold as Stpehen has mentioned will prevent this fault code. No matter what the car will run fine.........but the annoying light and noise upon start up is annoying.
I made 6" long O2 simulators for our 997TT catbypass pipes that bolt to our Maxflo Version 3, Version 2 and muffler bypass pipes...........you can greatly extend the time from NO check engine light to CEL light tripping.......but eventually it will trip.

Greetings Gee Bee,
I also live in Rancho Mirage (for the winter) and have 07' TT White, Fabspeed performance kit etc. at my home in Mpls. In the desert i have a 89' black Turbo cab perfect condition (it's a great car for the desert) if you like lets meet and compare notes and our cars. Send me a PM with your contact info. I can not pm because I haven't enough posts - best jte
