Help Me pick Rims Thread Number 2
Can we please try to act like mature adults and not close my thread?
So where we before we derailed?
Oh yes now I remember. We were comparing the specs of the OEM Turbo wheels to HRE, Champion and Dymag.
For the record, the only issues I have heard about with regards to HRE were with their 3-piece wheels from years past. I am confident these issues are no longer present in their manufacturing process and especially with regards to the monoblocks.
Lets stick to the facts and not bash an advertiser or company without evidence.
Thank you!

Those Dymags look sick!
I wish Champion would powder coat and I am miffed as to why they wont.
I like the P40 in black and I am thinking a hand yellow pinstripe will finish it off to match the brakes and interior.

Champion feels the powdercoating affects the integrity of the aluminum, thus they only rec painting. They do a very nice job on the painting, it is quite robust and does well on the street and track.

However, you can powdercoat as long as you keep the temp and time low enough during the cure. That's one of the reasons HRE brought powdercoat in-house when we switched away from paint. We knew we had to control the time and temp (among other things) to make sure we didn't harm the wheels. Same story for strip. We use a bead-blaster now to strip instead of chemical strip for the same reasons. Our stripper assured us they were using a "cold" strip but they kept trying to get us to use the cheaper and faster 500 deg hot strip because they did it all the time for other people. No thanks.
At the end of the day it is just best to do it yourself.
That being said, I'm pretty sure Champion's wheels are painted in Japan and the Japanese do the best job I've seen for liquid paints. I wouldn't make that sway your decision. Great... did I just sell you out of HREs? I can hear the sales guys running down to my office to try and get me to stop typing.

If I had to do it over again and jhad to choose different wheels, I'd do one of the following:
360 Forged SPEC Multi
Forgeline ZX3S

Dymag
I imagine everyone has forgotten but HRE is still coming out with our HRE/Dymag wheels. I think our marketing team had originally mentioned Jan release time-frames, but my team couldn't meet that so we're looking at early Q2. Two styles, Mesh and Multi-spoke. We showed them at SEMA but they've been modified to be lighter and prettier.

Any photos of these wheels avaiable for a lookski?
There are some good quality low temp powder coatings around, but you have to be careful with heat-treated wheels.
At AMT, we intentionally "underage" the forging when we know the wheel will be powdercoated. That way, we take the time in powdercoat into consideration. And we always check the Brinell hardness when they come back from powder coating.
If you have your heart set on the Champions, PM me and I will send you to a good powdercoater who won't "hurt" the wheels.
