Unhappy It had to happen

After almost two years of total neurosis I scraped my Techart lip on the underbelly .

I only drove the car two blocks to the grocery store . While at the register the person said "you got all heavy stuff today" . Yep things like cantelopes went into my trunk for the two block ride home.

As I was pulling out I saw an X3 speeding -- she was far enough away but I usually teeter out of parking lots at all types of angles at the slowest speeds to avoid the scrape . I went just a little faster . Maybe 3 MPH instead of two and forgot about the cantelope weight. Scrape!!!

I drove home sad . From the front it's not visible . Totally clear .. but I know it's there ----because

get underneath and ....

Happens to the best of us... You just have to get the car up on three wheels (yes the chassis is that stiff). Looking at it though a body shop could easily repair it

Thanks Sharky - I am debating touch up Vs full repaint because I can't see it unless I go underneath .

Or I could just live with it as is and nail it a few more times to get it out my system.
After all -I have walked on egg shells for a long time .

I'll probably do the middle ground --touch it up, drive it carefully and eventually repaint it.

I can't believe you made it 2 years with a lowered suspension before scraping the front. I wasted my first lip with an hour with stock suspension height.

Well it is black so you could really do that Seriously I've done so many Type1s and helped get them repaired. They were far, far worse than yours:P

Enjoy it and don't look down The trick is when you're coming out of driveways and you touch the road you're turning on, make sure you keep the wheel turning because too often I see people straighten out. That kills the angle.. and then your lip.

Absolutely . Today I overlooked the angle and the excess weight and it my lip's downfall . By the time I realized the wheels were straight it had already scraped.

At least it doesn't look too bad. Just get it touched up and no one will know it's there (except for you of course). After a while, it won't bother you as much either since you know it can be fully restored. The good think is that the next time you scrap...you won't be as affected.

There's the brief moment when you hear it scrape. I think for me it's not as much the severity of the event but more about how much time went into preventing it only to see it happen anyway . It's this overwhelming disappointment . I am starting to get over it though.

It's like a scrape lip support group . .
Ok I am laughing a little . It's going to be ok .

Heck, you should see the lip on my wife's minivan. Luckily she has no interest in driving the turbo.

A lift kit is good if one sees the dip beforehand . In short it allows a planned preventive move . It's the sudden dip or avoidance move made with just enough distraction that the lift may not have even been used.

I have exited the parking lot many times before with no scrape . It was the distraction of the oncoming car and my absent minded forgetting that I had heavy groceries in the manuver .

I am having a tough day . I overcooked my dinner reading and posting on this thread .

I feel your pain. I used to have the same front spoiler. I also scraped the sh*t out of it. I know it's hard, but try to let it go. You are the only one that knows the scrap is there. Just remember, you have one bad a$$ car!
