Thoughts on this please

A dealer in my area has a "new" 2008 Turbo for sale....I noticed it stated that it had 700 miles on it ...when I inquired about this I was told the owner drove the car.

Is this car considered used now even if not titled ?

If people are getting 20% of a brand new 2008 turbo what should I be looking to get off on this ??

Thanks

The owner probably used it as a demo . Check the warranty date it was "punched" . Run a DME scan and ask for 20K off MSRP .

I'd feel more comfortable purchasing a car with more miles where I knew who the owner was than one that already has 700 mostly undocumented miles.

With that said, these cars are built well and do last a long time if they are cared for and driven, I'm over 31,000 miles on my '08.

I would be wary of the car because if the dealer had the car for 700 miles you can bet that it was abused. Do you really think that the car was broken in properly? Personally I would put that car into the rental car category. I would rather look for a lightly used one from a private seller.

As long as the car has never been registered, they still consider the car as "new", even with 700 miles on the odo. Personally I think that is bull because once you've registered that car, you have just lost about 10K driving it off the lot...because now it's considered "used"...

I would be wary. "The dealership owner drove the car" is basically a euphemism for a demo unit, one that has been driven hard and not broken in properly.

I would ask to see a computer printout to see if an in service date has been entered. If one has then that is the date the warranty began, whether it is called new or used can vary in different states.

In service date was 9/08...which means the clock started ticking 7 months ago

My local dealer had the same issue...he took one of the turbos for about 450 miles and drove it. They do that. They are owners...wouldnt you do the same. If you dont believe them I would not buy it. But if the owner truly drove it and they are a stand up dealership, I highly doubt the owner needs to beat on cars at this point. Im sure he/she has driven many vehicles and knows how to treat a car. I would look into the warranty, but I don't believe it starts until the car is registered. I don't think they would have a Turbo loaner/demo car.
I would test it and if you love it...buy it.

That may mean the dealer wasnt driving it...Dealers dont "punch" cars until they're sold...Usually when a dealer uses a car as a demo they dont start the clock until it is sold to someone...

On alot of the 2008 cars check the warranty start date...most of the leftover 2008s i have seen, all with 50 miles or less, have had the warranty started already. I think porsche gave dealers $ but said they had to start the warranty.

I would push for decently more than 20%...dealers are advertising 20% off no mile 08s, so that should be a starting point not a place where a deal gets done.

So, they are selling it as NEW? Interesting....I guess it's on a fine line if it wasn't titled!

yeah but thats also why 08s need to be sold for a huge discount...when you can get a used 07 Turbo for 90k, why are you going ot pay a huge premium for "new" 08...the only difference at that point is the miles, since warranty has started. 09s are obviously different given the changes but on 08s i would move much closer to 07 pricing + a small spread for miles.

In most states, "new" just means never titled and under a specified mileage. Dealers sell demos as "new" all the time. I think of "new" as virgin but the dealers disagree.
