PCCB break question
PCCB break question
What is the reason for the thin metal plates that are sitting between pad dampers and the back of the break pads? I’m planning to replace my pads next week
and was wondering if perhaps it’s better to remove them completely. I heard that sometimes those thin plates may be the reason for the break squeak
at low speeds breaking. .

Hay we are back in business, any takers on this one.
The dampers are sitting in the pistons and are attached with adhesive to thin metal plate. The break pad sits in the thin metal plate. My question is can I attach the break pad directly to the dampers without the metal plate in between? Thank you

These are the shim plates to centralise the pads and prevent squeeking. Yoyu need to get a new shim set from Porsche or Brembo & they need to be installed and should be coated with high temp 'grease' made by Wurtz.
Are you changing to Pagid pads? RS29 work well with PCCB's.

Breaks are for tired workers and what happens to brittle bones.
Brakes stop cars.
Peace, and congrats on having a car with PCCB which are fantastic.
Think the days are long gone when you used to get a satchet of grease with new pads. I misspelled Wurtz, should be Wurth. Don't know about USA but in Europe they sell to trade only. They call it Carbon Brake Service kit and comes with cleaner, etc. Check internet.
And yes, I always put grease between pad & shims.

"Hog" already answered your question and his 100% correct!
The dampers are a must on Porsches.
At the dealerships we see many customers who complaints about brake squeaks after brake replacement at another shop because they re-used the damper plates. Keep in mind these are high performance brakes and is your safety. Spending the extra dollar amount of these damper plates are better than getting these loud squeaking noise everytime you pulling up to a valet or a stop sign.
congrats on your first set of PCCB brake pads...???

Ok. So I did my front brakes today it was an easy job,
I spend most of the time on cleaning of the silicone from the pistons on the inside of calipers. Imagine my surprise when I discover that there were no dampers
, but instead some type of silicon that was use to hold the pads and most of it already loose
. Anyway put the new dampers in, use "special paste" between the thin metal plate (heat shield) and back of the pads. Drove the car and now everything is very quiet and back to normal.
Oh I forgot to tell you guys that my wonderful dealer in NYC. quoted me over $3000 for the front and rear break job.<O

Tomorrow I’m doing the rear ones
