A.W.E. Bilstein

Quick story:
I bought a set of damptronic coilovers from Mike at A.W.E.
I was going to to DIY these but after reading on here about installation errors, I thought I better entrust this to the experts at Pfaff tuning. I gave Pfaff the unopened Bilstein box plus some wheel spacers to install. Next day Brad from Pfaff called to say there was shipping damage to one of the PASM electrical connectors. We contacted Mike at A.W.E who arranged with Bilstein to send an immediate replacement of the entire unit, no charge, shipped all prepaid with only a request for photos of the packaging and damage.
As I bought these from one house and gave to another (Pfaff sell Bilstein) this could easily have turned into 'my' problem but A.W.E., Pfaff and Bilstein chose to cooperate entirely for my benefit.
That is customer service.
Bob

Nice to hear but having dealt with Mike & AWE, it does not surprise me in the least.

How interesting. Just when I think I've heard everything.

Was there external damage to the shipping box when you receive it? Do you have picture of the actual damage to the PASM connector?

Recently there have been some comments from posters as to how some Bilstein's boxes looking like they've been roughed up quite a bit during transport. I can understand how; the box is heavy and big and those UPS/FedEx guys are not exactly flower shop workers.
I only have vague memory now but IIRC my box was wrapped in bubble wrap for shipping. Probably a good idea for anyone buying Bilstein to ask for double box or bubble wrap for shipping?

your situation was a recipe for disaster, but good people at good companies helped prevent it, I'm glad to hear it all worked out.

thats the advantage with dealing with a well established company like AWE. Service is the key.

Hope they take care of me like that! They've had my broken Bilstein for 2 weeks with no word yet!

Wow that sounds like a frustrating wait. If you want, see if Bilstein would do this (they did it for me when my car had a clutch reservoir fluid leak and the head tech at the dealer claimed it is the Bilstein leaking - what a careless idiot ) :

As soon as you file a warranty claim, Bilstein sends you a replacement coilover. They do charge your credit card something like $900 IIRC.
You then send your coilover back for them to examine. If it's their fault, your credit card charge is reversed. If it's your installer's, they keep the $.

Bilstein has outstanding customer service so I do think they will be fair. That said, I think at most they will only replace the one faulty unit, and not the whole set.

Hey Can
Do you know their official warranty policy? Just to add to the Bilstein bashing, I just installed a very lightly used set that I believe were originally purchased more than 2 years ago. Much to my anger and disappointment, I got a PASM failure and inability to engage Sport Mode. Don't know which one (or ones) of the coilovers is the culprit. Contacted the original owner who I hope will make this right.

On the damptronic, the warranty is simple: lifetime, providing your have original receipt from a Bilstein vendor. I do not know whether warranty is transferable, but I would assume original owner could make the claim for you.

Bilstein is a huge operation and the service is impeccable and beyond reproach. The warranty is the West Coast office and in my case I easily reached the warranty person by phone.
By the time I determined that the idiotic local Porsche dealer's head mechanic was wrong and my Bilstein was in fact working fine, the NEW coilover had already arrived so I simply sent it back. Full refund was given without one complaint.

Also, when I first bought it, I thought the set should have new rear drop links also so I called claiming that mines are missing. (This time I was the idiot. ) They promptly sent out 2 new (front) ones.
I feel sorry for these guys really; I suspect most of the times claims are due to end users' errors.

Now in your case, I believe someone had some similar problem and it was resolved simply by making sure the wire connection is proper. You might want to call Bilstein yourself. Phone number is on US web site.

Evolution Motorsports did the install so I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing While I can't engage sport mode, the difference in handling is noticible. Also put on RSS sways and rear toe links. The thought of giving up the car again to fix this pains me. Hopefully the original owner will step up here. Thanks for the info, Can.

There was no visible serious damage but yes the box did look a little worse for wear. No I don't have a picture of the internal damage, Pfaff communicated directly with AWE and thence onwards to Bilstein.

Hey Neil.
Cold there too huh?
I bought a new Sled so I'm rocketing around the trails across the lakes while the Porsche sleeps.
Any word on my new cats ?
Thanks,
Bob
