Techart vs. Vorsteiner Steering wheel?

My next 'expensive' mod is most definitely going to be a new steering wheel. I already have a buyer for my OEM CF one. Just need to decide on which new one I want to get.
Techart is obviously the consensus favorite. No doubt the quality is top notch. Only two problems I have are 1) no flat bottom option, 2) the price

Been also seriously considering the Vorsteiner version.
1/3 the way down this page:
http://vorsteiner.com/news/index.php?paged=2

I don't know how the thickness compares to the Techart or the quality of the leather. Don't think they have an option for CF if I decide to go that route. It is considerably less expensive. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, no one on this forum has this wheel.

Thoughts here?

I'll give it a bump as I've been very interested in this wheel as well. I would hope that the quality would be up there with their aero pieces, but it's all speculation. I like that there isn't a badge anywhere on it, definitely dig the subtlety. A buddy of mine has a Techart wheel and while it's certainly a top notch product, he's definitely missing a kidney now after the purchase.

The badge isn't a big concern as you can request that Techart delete that 'option'. My biggest concerns are the quality of the leather/craftsmanship and the overall thickness of the V-steiner wheel and how they compare to the 'gold standard' Techart.

Agreed. The Raid wheels are nice. Had a chance to fondle one at EVOMS. Option for the smaller diameter wheel is really cool and the very thick 3 and 9 o'clock sections feel GREAT. But I'm not a big fan of the center section. Would like to retain the factory airbag/crest.

This is the one I've been thinking. Gemballa has one for tip non-PDK. I'm looking to get Porsche badge in the center though. And, yes I'm not a big fan of the center of the wheel (it is kind a big and clumsy), but circle is very good looking and it gives you the F1 paddles. Tough decision...

Very nice wheel indeed. But good luck on getting the Porsche crest on a non-OEM airbag. If you're successful, just don't post any pictures of it. The lawyers from Porsche GmBH will be all over you like white on rice

I don't see any legal issues of it, if I buy one from them. I think I have right to glue one where ever I like. As long as I'm not selling anything... and, yes crests can be bought online from Porsche's online store.

The Gamballa one looks like a RAid/FVD wheel with a Gemballa badge. I'm sure it costs an arm and a leg. You cna probabaly gt teh same wheel from Raid and just put the Gemballa badge on it for half the price.

Ed,

I have the Techart steering wheel and I absolutely love it. I know it's a bit pricey, but I think it's worth it.

I have never seen the Vorsteiner one before. I didn't even know they made steering wheels. I must say, it looks great. I'm sure the quality is top notch. Their body pieces and wheels are top notch and I'm sure that the steering wheel would be no different. I don't know how much it is, but if it's substantially less than a Techart piece, I say go for it.

That's very cool info on the badge delete, I did not know that. Hoping someone with a V wheel pops up....

You are correct. Affixing one purchased/made by Porsche GmBH will not incur their wrath. When you or someone other than Porsche makes a 'replica' badge, that's when they start flipping out.

Price is potentially several hundred dollars, Mike. I had limited experience with Vorsteiner when I had my M5. Products were high quality. But not having extensive experience with them plus the fact that no one here (or seemingly anywhere) has one of these makes me a bit wary. As much as I like to be somewhat original, I also don't want to be the guinea pig

Yup. Member Atomic80 posted this fact a while back. He got the Techart wheel without the badge at the 6 o'clock position. Much cleaner, although I don't think it looks THAT bad.

If it's only a matter of several hundred dollars, then I say go with the Techart wheel.

Can you spare some details how to make it work? My local dealer said they checked from the factory and message is it is not possible. I really would prefer Porsche steering wheel with paddles over anything. So if you have details how, please share!

Thanks!

Hi

I did not buy it yet but will do later

Here is the link where you can buy from sucoast

http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...7tt_strwheltip

and they said wheel must be programmed by a Porsche dealer to make it work. I think you should call them for more details.
