91, 93 & 100 Octane - Who's using what?

Just curious what is being used out there. I just had the GIAC mod done with exhaust and I'm pretty sure I have the 91/100 flash. I just realized there is a 93/100 version and since I have a race fuel station 2 min from my house I was really curious what hp increases could be achieved by having the 93 octane as my base setting. Also curious of the gain using the 100 setting with 100 octane. I'm sure ECU/exhaust combos will of course vary but I am hoping for some insight on this. I have inquired with GIAC but was also hoping for some real world testimonials.

My experience at race fuel filling stations has not been very good. I find the quality of fuel is sub par, and am not sure I would trust it to fulfill the octane requirements of my car.

Just a thought...

I have heard similar views but I am pretty sure one can easily achieve 93 with a proportionate mix of 100 and 91. Also have heard good things about 76 race fuel (this is the station by my house). 93 is also a much more economic route with 100 being close to $7 a gallon.

I run 100 octane and there is a huge difference in power. With the right software look out its a different car.

Is your car tuned for full time 100 octane?

If your running the GIAC software and your in social. You prob have the 91 pump program. It should also have some maps stored for 93 octane. If you want to run a mix of race/pump gas to bump your octane. The ecu should detect the higher octane and choose the appropriate maps to optimize power. After trying both 76 race gas and vp ms 109, there is no comparing. The 76 really isn't even 100 octane. Really only 96. MS 109 is the real way to go. Try it for yourself and you will feel the difference. Race gas file is awesome!

I completely agree. At $7.99/gal, the 100 octane at the 76 station in SoCal is junk. I drove out of my way to get some and I could barely measure a noticeable difference. I was very disappointed. I need to get some ms109.

Where does one get MS109? I'm in So cal and saw a station listed in Sun Valley but are there others? That's a stretch for me to fill up.

Go to the VP website and search for dealers but just know that CARB restricts selling of this fuel to track cars only due to the fact it contains MTBE, a banned fuel additive in CA.

I usually run a 70% 100 and 30% 91 mix. Car runs great. Every once in a while, I get Quik911 to load me up with some 109 and WOW!!

You're making me green with envy. I need to get some from some track guys I know. It's the only way to really test max performance of your vehicle.

Do most ECU tunes actually detect higher octane levels and adjust accordingly? Seems like a pretty advanced feature or is it just an extension of a feature the 997 already has in it's software? Wonder how accurate they are. Would be a shame to be spending extra $ for quality fuel and not getting 100% out of it.

Your ECU detects octane levels indirectly via the knock sensors and adjustments timing accordingly. GIAC has different maps for various octanes which can be loased via their flashloader. I assume you would need to load the race file to get max benefit from race fuel.
