New to me 2007 911 tt.. turbo question
Ok so i just picked up a 2007 911tt... has awe headers, apr exhaust and apr ecu tune.. i was a little suprised at when im feeling the turbos kick in.... at around 3000 rpm... i thought it was supposed to be at 1950 rpm?? Although It does feel like a sling shot up to almost red line... also, is it normal to feel a lag when initially hitting WOT??
Have you had many 911 turbos in the past? (I did not read your signature line). In my experience, some modified 997 Turbos "give up" a bit in terms of lag for increased power and torque, compared to the non-modded car. Usually, the turbos should kick in around 2-3K, IMHO.
No, this is my 1st porsche.... and i love it. Just new to me in terms of how they perform. I have an appt with a porsche mechanic for thursday to give the car a once over but am just trying to educate myself as much as possible .....

sounds normal to me. (Don't forget its soooo hot out.) You can meet me up the some of us and go for a ride in my or Danny's 997 turbo to see what it feels like. Good luck with the new ride.
The turbo lag takes getting used to. I have had feg a M5, E55, etc. The power is instant. The car is really fast, but sometimes the combination of kick down: shifting down 2 gears + turbo lag takes forever. From a stop its easy to get rid of it by powerbraking and spooling the turbos up, but otherwise it is definately there.

For you I have to say, that after changing from only manual (loved all my manual cars) to only pdk/auto, I am not going to take a manual again, because they just are faser than me shifting...
Jeremy Clarkson shows it in this new top gear 997TT cab manual test drive:

That annoying hesitation you describe is completely normal with stock turbos. It was unacceptable to me because I didn't pay buku bucks only to have it stall like that when WOT power is needed immediately. The situation is greatly improved with upgraded vtgs. I don't believe APR offers a tune for upgraded vtg's so you are going to be stuck with stock turbos (and hesitation) unless you uprade with a different tuner.
just got it this past monday with 20,000 miles on it... 1st porsche and already hooked!!! its GT silver metallic
Since you're new, welcome and congratulations on your new turbo!
