Battery recommendation?

I think my battery is about to go. Doesn't seem to hold charge after jump start.

Any recommendation on batteries for 2008 997TT? I've heard good things about Interstate. Any others?

Wow - I thought this would have been a simple trip to auto store but no such luck. Evidently all of the batteries listed by big vendors such as pepboys and advanced auto lists a much larger battery - 14" length - which doesn't work with factory bolt locations - should be around 12"

What am I missing? Are there no OEM alternatives?

Thanks

I use an Optima YellowTop. You can get info on them from the Optima website: optimabatteries.com

best check with your Dealer. I was covered under warranty and I had 27K on the car. There is a certain criteria the techs follow but for the money is worth checking there first.

thanks guys! johnww - I thought I heard you need at least 6000 mi a year for the warranty? I have 6,000 miles now so I presume I won't qualify for the warranty?

Special thanks to JasonKM (rennlist) for making this easy. As per his advice, I installed Walmart's EverStart MAXX 94R. It fits absolutely perfectly! It's almost identical to OEM battery except this carries 765 CCA and 3 yr direct replacement + 9 yr pro rate. I paid $77 + core charge which seems like a bargain compare to OEM. This battery was made by Johnson Controls.

$77 may be the cheapest price I have heard for a replacement battery (OEM or otherwise.)

Nice!

I guess only time will tell whether this will be a good OEM replacement. I can't imagine it being worse than OEM given that mine lasted only 3 yrs.

You'd be surprised who the OEM manufacturers are for many batteries. JC makes the core battery for many brands. I think you'll be fine.

Keep the receipt, the MAXX has 3 year warranty. So I paid just once for 5! years in my Range Rover...

tech at dealer says porsche OEMs are lucky to last 3 years. I guess the many accessories and short trips really does little good for the battery. The Walmart item sounds like a good buy for that kind of money.

Use a trickle charger/battery maintainer. My battery on all of my Porsches lasted >4 years even through Wisconsin winters/storage.

Good grief, that's a lot of trouble to retain battery life for a year or so. I guess to be on the safe side up north, it might be good, but plugging that mini-charger to the house current in Florida has be just too much bother. IMO
