2006 997tt

Hi guys,
I am new to this forum and a prospective owner of a 911tt(997). I have been admiring this cars for a while now and there are several things i want to know more about before making the plunge:
1.Are used 911tt's with about 35000 miles reliable in the long run?I am talking about using it as a DD and putting 100-150000 miles on it over the next 5-6 years.
2. Do light mods like sharkwerks exhaust, ecu tuning etc compromise the reliability of the car when it gets old and has done >100000miles in future?
3.How many whp does it have? I could not find the figure for that year because all that is talked about now is the newer version of the tt and the tts.
4. Is it ok to buy the cars that are on the market for a cheap price like 70000? What are the sacrifices i am making by paying less? I ask this because the price varies greatly and i am confused(i have seen some going for 90000)

Thanks.

Going to give my opinion here based on your questions. Again, my opinion.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
1. These are known to be very reliable vehicles when properly maintained…but I would never buy any used car, no matter the model, without having some sort of inspection first. Therefore, the mileage in question is not the only subject. The thing you need to be concerned with is how this vehicle was maintained…e.g. service records, etc…you should get the car inspect at a Porsche dealer. It usually runs around 2-4 hundred. This should be the starting point for helping you make a decision.
2. Anytime you alter a vehicle from its original condition you run a risk… I’m not stating that doing so would lead to a problem down the road but it certainly could have an effect. No one can predict what may happen if you do X…
3. There is a lot of information/discussion available here that talks about what WHP these vehicles (997.1) produce stock. Search around and you’ll come across this data…
4. Take your time a find a vehicle that meets your standards based on your budget. You won’t find a ’07 turbo in the 70’s with 5k miles but you may with 35k. More miles equal more depreciation… You need to factor in miles, condition, warranty, and more. If you want to put your search into a more realistic perspective based on your comments look at a 996 turbo with 30k miles compared to one with 100k miles. There will be a big gap… So, no matter what you pay up front 70k-90k in 5-6 years your car with >100k miles with be worth considerably less than mine with 25k miles. In addition, you should download the service manual and look at the service expense you’ll need to be prepared for, as these don’t come cheap. Extended warranty…another $3-5k. Tires… depends on the brand and how your drive. My PS2’s run almost $2k for all 4 installed.
<o></o>
I think these are amazing cars, which is why I purchased one. Take your time… Good Luck!

I just bought a pretty nice '07 TT with about $15k in aftermarket and 17k miles on the odometer for $84k. The cars listed in the $70k range had 30k+ miles on them. I honestly think they are pretty safe to buy. These cars are pretty reliable.

Once again, Lardog is correct. I orfered mine late 06. It's a 2007 car - the first year of its launch.

PSTT03 is pretty much dead on. For what it's worth, here's my opinion:

If properly maintained, they will last a very long time.

Mods COULD compromise reliability over time depending on what kind of power is coming from them and the tolerances of other stock components (i..e. i have a flash and exhaust and now my clutch slips should I get an aftermarket clutch?)

There are dyno sheets of stock cars on this forum if you search

The price variations are due to mileage and options. Here is what I would look for:

stock car (no mods and don't get tricked into paying more for a modded car) It's better and more fun if you mod to suit your own tastes.
Must have options - sport chrono, LSD, short shifter at the minimum. Everything else like adaptive seats, etc are personal preference.

Expect about low to mid 4xx awhp/awtq for a 997tt (check this link halfway down the first post)
