Oil temp problem?

I've never had any oil temperature problems. Even in 110F temp on the track it holds at 225F at very most at the end of a hot lap session.

However, I've recently seen it at 210F (normally never goes over 200) idling in stop and go traffic but at 10C temperatures (kind cold ambient temps) here in Canada. It cooled down after driving a few miles. This has never happened before.

Any thoughts or advice? I don't really need an oil change, oil levels ok, no oil leaks that I can see, about 60K kilometers on the car.

Yikes!
K.

I'm not a porsche tech but can share my experience and opinion. What you're describing doesn't sound like an issue. Mine is a weekend car but it's always been in warm climates where I typically use the A/C during weekend runs. Two weeks ago a friend was in town and he said let's role the windows down for a few...sure no problem. Turned of the A/C and started to notice the oil temp climbing just a little (200-210). Wasn't alarmed just never noticed it doing that at idle before. When I turned on the A/C 20 minutes later is went right back to the middle position. I can't explain why the oil temp runs hotter with the A/C off in warmer temps...could this be what you're seeing/experiencing too?

could be a sticking thermostat that is not opening at the proper temp...is the engine coolent temp climbing slightly too? you also might check the oil cooler radiator for any blockage

I remember once letting my car idle for an extended period while I was fiddling with something and was surprised that the oil temp went as high as it did. I can't remember the exact temp but it was definitely higher than expected. When I started driving, the temp went down fairly quickly so I just attributed it to a less than efficient radiator fan.

I don't think there is a problem with your car as my car did the same once I got stuck on Highway 1 during rush hours. It will go up to 210f if moving very slowly; after a couple minutes when the traffic picks up some speed, it will drop back to normal.

I also noticed if I let the car idle for 2-3 minutes after drives, oil temperature always goes a little past 200F.

Thanks for the input. This has just never happened before and with my warranty almost over I was wondering if I should trade the TT in for a Lada.

beepbeep is infamous around these parts
I know the BMW 335 I had didn't even open the oil thermostat for the oil cooler until the oil reached 210 F. This keeps water condensation out of the oil. Boost wasn't reduced until the oil hit 300 F. Synthetic oils can run pretty hot without danger.
