Subtle Differences

I am a relativly new member to the Porsche Community. I have a 11 Turbo S on order. I have trouble differentiating between the different model years. I know the headlights are a give away on the older 911's but not sure that they are. Anyone have a pictorial guide to get this newbie up to speed?

Thanks to all the members of 6speed for helping me with all my questions.

I look forward to being an active member here.

I have the same problem - I've been trying to shop for that dream Porsche, but being a neophyte, I can't always tell the differences. I saw a buyers guide at Barnes & Noble that looked pretty comprehensive - a $30+ book that seemed to have everything including the latest model years. I need to go back and get it!!

But if I had a Turbo S on order, I would not CARE about the other models!!!

Try the magazine rack at B&N - IIRC there are a couple of UK magazines (maybe GT Porsche) that list the models and a lot of the specs and differences at the back of each issue.

There is a 911 Turbo guide out now, published by one of the UK mags. Might still be on the shelf. I saw it at B&N

Recent issue of Christophorous (Porsche) magazine has a nice poster that shows side profile of EVERY porsche produced since 1950s. I doubt it's detailed enough to discern all the differences but it's a start. Or go through some pictures in this forum for the respective models.

Yup. GT Porsche mag. Thought it was a regular magazine. Went to pay for it and it was $20-something bucks!

The way i do it is from the rear the 996 TT has the exhaust pipes below the bumper & the 997 tt has the pipes in the bumper ,from the front the 996tt has the headlights you cant miss the fried egg look i think they call it & the 997tt has the old style round ones.As far as the 997 .1 tt & 997.2 tt the only thing you notice in a quick glance is from the rear the tail lights have a different shape.I have problems from the side sometimes if it's in passing.
