PASM and Sport Mode Failure

Hi folks,

I tracked my car last week and at the end of the day i got "brakepads worn" alert and had them changed (discs, pads, sensors etc.) and when i got it back from my local workshop, the PASM warning lit up. It says "PASM failure" and I can't turn on sport mode on. When I try to, i see "Sport Mode Failure". When I start the engine without moving, everything seems to work fine but as i move like couple of feets the warning comes back again. The suspension stiffens and engine dynamics runs in non-sport mode.

We checked it with PIWIS, in fault codes it says "FR shock absorber" . We took out the FR wheel and looked for the connections and it was ok. We took out the ABS sensor and cleaned it, erase the faulty codes but no help.

Any suggentions ? Before the brakes changed everything was in working order.

Thanks.

the reason is simple; Crap stock bilstein shocks. Factory uses the low end bilsteins. If you put them next to B16 or any other aftermarket bilstein you ll see what i mean..

Still call your dealer and complain. If car is in good condition, serviced and low miles you might get lucky..

plus, you may be able to pick up a lightly used stock shock with all the bilsteins being installed.

Received the same error message and symptoms with my Damptronics first time at the track. It was raining, PASM locked in stiff mode, the fault would clear when the car wasn't moving, etc. etc. Checked everything and couldn't find a problem. Finally after clearing error codes x3 with a Durametric a week later everything was fine and has been ever since. Who knows what it was. Some hypothesize that it's easy to crimp the PASM wire or that it's prone to shorting when wet. Let us know if you get a definitive diagnosis. Thanks,

Will it work if I disconnect the battery and put the car in sleep mode for a while and erase the faulty codes with PIWIS ?

You can clear the fault with PIWIS or Durametric. But if there is really a problem, it will likely return.

The OEM PASM damper is a lot more stout than the aftermarket damptronic version, not prone to failure, chances are that there is a serious issue. Having said that sometimes hitting the bump stop will throw a light, try jacking the car up all the way then let it drop thru its range of travel, if something is stuck it might resolve it. I suppose you have already disconnected the battery to reset?

i'll take the car to my local workshop to jack it up. but still didn't disconnected the battery, the reason for this is a close friend of mine who is an ex-porsche mechanic, told me that we need to disconnect the battery in workshop, wait a while then connect it and plug the piwis right away and make all the codings before starting the engine. If you say it's nothin to do with it, i am going downstairs to disconnect it

Try tracking down a Durametric diag tool and it will tell you which shock is giving you the fault. If not a quick trip into the dealer will also help =)
which connectors are they ? we connected to the PIWIS and it tells us FR Shock absorber is having problems.

It's unlikely the stock connectors would fail unless they have been altered or misinstalled. They lie under the plastic cover in the front boot, out of harms way. The rear connectors are hidden behind the padding and carpet under the Bose, again out of harms way.
