Now that it is cooling off in the evening I am noticing that the turbos kick a little earlier and harder? I guess this is normal for turbo engines but I was not expecting to be able to see such a marked difference. Maybe I won't pack her away for the winter!

Anyone else notice this? The car is new to me so perhaps this is a well know fact here.

Yep, temps here in Dallas came down from 100+ to 80s and it makes quite a difference. The car felt like it had Asthma when I was driving it and the temp gauge showed 105 and higher on the asphalt/concrete.

Bernd, i hear ya with those dallas temps. Daily 105+ has been crazy, so definitely took advantage of a few early morning drives when it dropped into the high 60's through the night. After watching US Top Gear's review of the GT2RS (comparing temps well north of 110+ then driving in LA at night in the 60's) and the lower temps breathing life into those turbos...I couldn't wait to experience again what the turbo is capabile of when chilled oxygen is part of the equation. The beginning of good driving weather for sure.

Cooler air is denser, thus more O2 to the engine and as a result more power.

I guess the effect of hot weather is more pronounced in a turbo compared to a Saugmotor since the intercoolers are not able to cool very much at all in 100+ temps.

It's not so much the intercoolers as it is the snowball effect of higher intake air temperatures, which result in turbos having to spin faster (thus adding even more heat) to make the same boost.

Turbo cars lose more in the heat than normally aspirated cars do - but we also gain a hell of lot more power in the cold than they do, sort of the opposite sequence.

I generally refer to 60 degrees as TURBO weather .

Yep, I noticed a HUGE different from summer driving here in the midwest compared to when it was 20 degrees outside last winter. The other big difference was tire grip (ie summer performance tires) really sucked. Putting two and two together caused WOT burnouts on drive pavement all the way through second gear at ~65 mph! AWD helps, but be careful.
